PurposeThe Accountant III is responsible for the accurate and timely recording, analysis, reconciliation, and reporting of financial information for Liberty Utilities. Reporting to the Accounting Manager or Senior Manager, this role supports month-end and year-end close activities, financial reporting, account reconciliations, regulatory reporting requirements, audit support, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
The Accountant III works collaboratively with operations, regulatory, customer service, procurement, FP&A, and other finance teams to ensure financial integrity, compliance with accounting standards, and efficient execution of accounting processes.

Accountabilities- Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with established closing schedules.
- Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports and supporting schedules.
- Investigate and explain financial variances and unusual account activity.
- Support financial statement preparation and related disclosures
- Prepare balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Monitor and resolve outstanding accounting issues and aged balances.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Support compliance with US GAAP, SOX, and company policies, as applicable.
- Maintain appropriate documentation to support accounting positions and financial results.
- Provide accounting guidance and support to operational and corporate departments.
- Assist business partners with expense coding and accounting treatment questions.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis activities.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate responses to internal and external audit requests.
- Assist with the implementation of audit recommendations and control enhancements.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting efficiency.
- Support automation initiatives and accounting system enhancements.
- Participate in special projects and finance transformation initiatives.
Education and Experience- University - Bachelor degree or equivalent
- Utility, energy, or regulated industry experience considered an asset.
- Experience with SAP systems preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to identify trends, variances, and financial irregularities.
- Strong organizational and time-management capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Compensation DataFull base salary range $85,000.00- $115,000.00 per year*Liberty considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education, training and skills, and geographic location.
