Overview

Nexus Water Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to support financial reporting, corporate accounting, and audit-ready deliverables in a regulated utility environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting under U.S. GAAP, while supporting the month-end close process, external audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Location and Schedule

The Senior Accountant is a full-time role based at our Sugar Land, TX office. Minimum 3 days per week, with up to 2 days of work-from-home.

What You'll Do

The Senior Accountant duties include the following:

Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting:
  • Prepare and assist with the timely filing of financial statements and reporting packages
  • Partner with FP&A, Treasury, Tax, and Operations Accounting to gather reporting input and resolve discrepancies
  • Help maintain reporting calendars, PBC trackers, status updates, and documentation standards for quarterly close and reporting cycles
  • Maintain organized support files and help build repeatable templates for recurring reporting deliverables
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, or standardize recurring reporting workstreams
  • Research and analyze complex accounting issues and new accounting pronouncements
  • Assist with implementation of new accounting standards and disclosure requirements


Corporate Accounting & Financial Close:
  • Prepare, record, analyze and report accounting transactions and ensure the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close process to support the preparation of monthly management reports and the Company's required financial statements and reporting packages
  • Prepare and/or review monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts


Audit Readiness & Special Projects:
  • Support external auditor requests, review comments, and follow-up questions through timely and complete responses
  • Participate in system implementations, reporting enhancements, and finance transformation initiatives
  • Support M&A activities, due diligence efforts, and integration projects as needed

What You'll Bring

Experience
  • 2+ years of Big Four public accounting experience, or 4+ years of combined public accounting or financial reporting experience
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, financial statements, reconciliations, and audit support standards
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to work accurately with large, multi-tab workbooks and reporting schedules
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage deadlines in a close/reporting calendar
  • Clear written communication and ability to document work so reviewers can follow the logic and source data
  • High ownership mindset and willingness to learn complex reporting areas


Nice to Have
  • Experience with SAP, FloQast, ERP reporting tools, or financial statement reporting software
  • Experience in public utility, infrastructure, or multi-entity environment


Education, Licenses and Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
  • CPA, or actively pursuing CPA certification with multiple exam sections successfully completed


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong experience in financial accounting under U.S. GAAP, ideally gained across audit, industry, or a combination of both
  • Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, journals and financial reporting
  • A strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to apply judgement in practical situations
  • A process improvement mindset, with examples of improving ways of working rather than simply maintaining them
  • Strong attention to detail, combined with the ability to see the bigger picture
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with both finance and non-finance colleagues
  • A proactive, structured and solutions-oriented way of working

Work Environment

  • This role is primarily office-based with extended periods of sitting and computer work.
  • Regular collaboration is required both in person and virtually with internal and external stakeholders.
