What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The hiring range for this position is $75,000.00 - $90,000.00/year, based on experience and education.

Location

The Denver Clerk & Recorder's office is located at 200 W. 14th Ave., immediately south of the City & County Building. Office hours are typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

What You'll Do

The Denver Clerk and Recorder is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Recording & Public Trustee Division. In this position, you will perform advanced, complex accounting duties that support multiple business operations and ensure fiscal accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency across the division.

Responsibilities

As the Senior Accountant, you will:
  • Serve as a high-level financial backup to the Accounting Manager
  • Manage daily banking platform activities, including incoming/outgoing payments, discrepancy reviews, and positive pay monitoring
  • Support frontline cashiering staff and oversee reconciliations for non-cash payment types (ACH, credit cards, checks)
  • Perform general ledger management, including monthly entries and account monitoring within Workday
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, performance metrics, quarterly/annual reports, and variance analyses
  • Assist with financial system troubleshooting, system change adjustments, and operational support
  • Work with junior staff when necessary to support daily accounting operations


What You'll Bring

Our ideal candidate has:
  • Three+ years of general ledger experience
  • Experience with financial systems, ideally Workday or similar (PeopleSoft, etc.)
  • Experience working with cashiering or payment systems and understanding reconciliation processes
  • Experience supporting or coaching junior staff
  • A strong commitment to accuracy, analytical thinking, and adherence to fiscal rules


Minimum Qualifications
  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional level accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures, and preparing financial reports.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: None
