Responsibilities

  • Guide staff accountants on month-end close variance explanations
  • Review and approve journal entries and inventory reconciliations
  • Conduct month-end close activities including accruals and allocations
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with quarterly and annual filings, providing analytic support
  • Coordinate PBC requests for auditors, both internal and external
  • Develop custom Excel reports using complex formulas
  • Collaborate with Corporate and Field personnel to gather financial data
  • Propose and implement process improvements for efficiency and control
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls on all assigned tasks
  • Assist with special projects and system upgrades impacting accounting operations

Full Job Description
The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing the day-to-day functions for the funeral home accounting group and/or financial reporting processes of the Company. Additionally, this role is responsible for preparing and analyzing certain account reconciliations and variance analysis in connection with the Company's monthly close process and completing various projects as determined on an ad hoc basis.

Compensation: $85k+

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting - CPA a plus.
  • A minimum of Five (5) years accounting experience - publicly traded company and/or public accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Personable, positive, and enthusiastic attitude with capability to deal effectively with people
  • Supervising at least two staff accountants
  • Comfortable with training and development of staff accountant(s), including providing timely feedback.
  • Detail oriented and ability to work in a team setting
  • Be a self-starter and resolve issues with minimal supervision
  • Solid time management skills; ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and function independently and efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent organization skills and work habits
  • Strong General Ledger experience, ability to create and upload journal entries
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required. Strong data mining, analysis, and spreadsheet skills
  • ERP / Accounting & Reporting software experience is strongly preferred. Experience with Oracle / Hyperion Essbase and/or Onestream is a plus for this position but not required.

Job Duties:
  • Review written variance explanations and provide guidance and appropriate accounting guidelines for staff accountants during month-end close.
  • Review and approve journal entries and inventory reconciliations for staff accountants.
  • Complete inventory reconciliations.
  • Perform month-end close activities, such as preparing and posting manual accrual entries, expense allocation entries and recurring and re-classing journal entries.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Prepare and review supporting schedules to assist with the preparation of the quarterly and annual Company filings, including providing analytic explanations and MDA support
  • Coordinate and prepare PBC requests for internal and external auditors.
  • Utilize Excel using complex formulas such as, pivot tables, v-lookups, sumifs, etc. to provide ad hoc and custom advanced excel reports as needed by management.
  • Work with Corporate and Field Personnel to obtain information and provide explanations for financial analysis.
  • Identify, propose, and implement process improvements / procedure enhancements to gain efficiencies, strengthen controls and improve quality of information provided by the department.
  • Ensure internal controls are being followed for all assigned tasks.
  • Assist in special projects, testing system upgrades or enhancements affecting processes and solutions utilized by the Accounting Group.
  • Create and build rapport with Field Personnel, including Managing Partners
