Full Job Description
The Senior Accountant is expected to provide functional, technical and process leadership insights. This individual will assist the Controller in overseeing and coordinating organizational accounting functions and all activities related to accounting services provided to internal and external customers. Other functions include assisting the Controller with the implementation of the organization's accounting principles, practices, and procedures. The Senior Accountant is expected to assist in various ad hoc reporting requests as well as various departmental projects and initiatives. This position reports to the Controller, and is located in our Houston, TX office.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for assisting the Controller with the preparation of external financial statements with an expedited deliverable date and various monthly reporting and reconciliation reports.
  • Responsible for the monthly maintenance of the fixed asset system including recording additions, disposals, depreciation and any modifications to asset locations.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the lease accounting software to maintain compliance with GAAP lease accounting standards.
  • Take an active role in certain critical accounting areas such as boat cost allocations, steel inventory, month-end revenue accruals and deferrals.
  • Track and manage unique close considerations related to boat movement, location changes and other accounting structure adjustments. Ensure changes are accurately reflected in processes and reporting.
  • Responsibility for assisting with the management of all aspects of the daily accounting operations and financial reporting processes, ensuring it is running efficiently and effectively.
  • Assisting with analysis and review of the organization's financial performance by collecting, analyzing and reporting financial and statistical data.
  • Formulate accounting practices for general ledger, AP, AR and assets.
  • Supervises and participates in the preparation of monthly journal entries with particular focus on month end close accrual and adjusting journal entries.
  • Reviews monthly closing processes to prevent errors and records various allocations across departments, product lines and locations.
  • Aid in preparation of the financial statements and the distribution of the monthly reporting package to management and the Board of Directors.
  • Handle personally or supervise general ledger reconciliations.
  • Handle special projects or ad hoc reporting as requested by management.
  • Help with the preparation of the yearly external audit.
  • Stay current on changes in regulations and other industry news and provide executive summaries to management.
  • Challenge and improve the Company's control environment, develop new control processes as needed, and take responsibility to ensure successful implementation of the new processes.
  • Assist departmental leadership with any software application implementations the Company undertakes, especially if they have financial or accounting related implications.
  • Provide day-to-day management and support to team members, including regularly checking in, assisting with questions or roadblocks, and teaching/training staff on accounting processes and best practices.


Minimum Educational and Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from a certified institution.
  • 4+ years of professional accounting experience, including at least one full year in a Senior Associate role with some level of team leadership responsibility (for candidates coming from public accounting), or equivalent experience in this role (or a comparable role) at a private or public company.
  • Strong team leadership and training skills, with experience managing a team of 3 or more.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (formulas, pivot tables, etc.).
  • Displays working knowledge of GAAP reporting.
  • Excellent critical thinking as well as analytical skills.
  • Possesses exceptional organizational skills and is an effective time manager and multi-tasker.
  • Displays knowledge of financial accounting software programs and an aptitude for learning new software applications.
  • Displays good interpersonal skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Preferred Educational and Job Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation a plus.
  • Big 4 or large regional public accounting firm experience a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft GP


Physical Capabilities:

  • Carry, push, pull or move 10 pounds regularly, or up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to sit up to 8 hours per day
