Full Job Description
Job Summary

Reporting to the University of Colorado's Division of Public Safety and Department of Security Services, the Security Technology Operations Professional supports the safety and security of the university community through the oversight, governance, coordination, and technical administration of electronic security systems. This position applies independent judgment and subject-matter expertise to support system lifecycle management, campus integration, performance optimization, emergency response readiness, and compliance with university security standards. The role partners closely with campus collaborators, project managers, and vendors to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable security technology solutions aligned with institutional standards and public safety objectives.

This position ensures that security technologies function as an integrated, campus-wide safety system capable of supporting coordinated emergency response, rather than as standalone components. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise in security systems and surveillance technologies, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Security Systems Administration, Coordination, and Quality Oversight

  • Provide professional oversight and coordination of the installation, configuration, testing, and ongoing operation of electronic access control systems, video management systems (CCTV), alarms, and related security technologies.
  • Collaborate with Security Technology Managers to support planning, implementation strategies, training initiatives, and continuous improvement of campus security systems.
  • Serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting, diagnostics, system optimization, and preventive maintenance planning.
  • Coordinate and communicate with campus departments and team members to ensure alignment with security standards, project expectations, and timelines.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews of security technology installed by vendors and system integrators, including field verification, documentation review, and acceptance testing, to ensure compliance with university standards, specifications, and contractual requirements.
  • Partner with IT and systems teams to support firmware updates, system integrations, and overall performance of security technology infrastructure.
  • Contribute to system documentation, standards development, and operational procedures.
  • Oversee and support lifecycle maintenance and complex troubleshooting of electronic security systems, applying independent judgment to resolve issues and recommend long-term improvements.
  • Ensure systems are configured and maintained to support coordinated emergency response capabilities, including lockdown functionality, real-time monitoring, and integration with dispatch and emergency communication systems.

Project Planning, Estimating, and Technical Consultation

  • Evaluate customer and departmental requests to develop project scopes, technical recommendations, and preliminary cost estimates.
  • Identify appropriate hardware and materials for new installations, upgrades, and system enhancements.
  • Provide technical consultation and support to project managers, contractors, and campus partners during construction, renovation, and retrofit projects.
  • Assist with vendor coordination, review of submittals, and technical input throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure projects incorporate enterprise integration requirements, emergency response functionality, and long-term operational sustainability.

Security Technology Program Governance, Standards, and Strategy

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of campus-wide security technology standards, policies, and protocols.
  • Contribute to and maintain policies governing the appropriate use of security technologies, including emergency activation protocols (e.g., classroom lockdown systems).
  • Partner with Department of Public Safety leadership to align security technology systems with institutional safety strategies and emergency response protocols.

Enterprise System Integration

  • Ensure integration of access control, video systems, emergency communication platforms, dispatch systems, and building infrastructure.
  • Ensure interoperability of systems to support coordinated, real-time emergency response across campus.
  • Evaluate integration of new technologies into the existing security ecosystem.

Operational Readiness, Testing, and Risk Management

  • Coordinate and oversee testing and validation of security systems for emergency scenarios, including lockdown and coordinated response events.
  • Support drills and readiness assessments in partnership with Department of Public Safety and campus partners.
  • Identify risks related to system failure during critical incidents and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure systems maintain operational readiness during high-risk or emergency situations.
