Position SummaryThe Security Systems Manager leads the planning, deployment, operation, maintenance, and lifecycle management of enterprise physical security technologies across Xcel Energy's facilities and critical infrastructure. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, effectiveness, and continuous improvement of access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, perimeter security, and related security technology systems.
The position provides leadership to regional security systems personnel, manages vendor relationships, oversees security technology projects, and partners closely with business stakeholders to ensure security solutions align with operational needs, regulatory requirements, and enterprise security standards.
This leader plays a critical role in advancing the company's physical security technology modernization efforts, including enterprise platform standardization, system integration, and emerging security technologies.
Essential Responsibilities- Delivery: Establish and deliver against tactical departmental goals to achieve overall Enterprise Security Services (ESS) strategic plans, objectives, and goals, including reliable operation, lifecycle management, and modernization of enterprise physical security systems.
- Talent Development: Recruit, retain, and develop a diverse and high-performing team; create an environment of continuous learning, technical proficiency, accountability, and career development.
- Audit and Compliance: Lead efforts to ensure departmental compliance with internal and sector policies and regulatory requirements; drive timely corrective action for issues, findings, or deviations, and ensure security technology controls align with enterprise risk-mitigation strategies.
- Industry and Sector Awareness: Stay abreast of industry and sector trends, threats, emerging technologies, and best practices to advise leadership and partner teams on when to innovate and when to use proven approaches. Maintain awareness of current and potential risks to the company, critical infrastructure, and sector.
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Technology, Science, Business, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8+ years of experience in related field/sector, including 5 years experience managing a team.
- Demonstrated verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to understand complex technical and/or business information.
- Demonstrated ability to work across organization boundaries and influence others.
- Ability to define and manage internal projects and milestones.
- Ability to both lead and partner in a cross functional team environment.
- Strong investigative, analysis, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.
Preferred Requirements- Prior experience leading physical security technology operations in a critical infrastructure, utility, energy, industrial, or similarly regulated environment.
- Demonstrated people-leadership experience, including setting performance expectations, developing technical professionals, allocating resources, and supporting succession planning.
- Experience administering or overseeing enterprise access control, video management, intrusion detection, visitor management, electronic key management, perimeter security, analytics, and related integrated security platforms.
- Experience with Genetec Security Center or a comparable enterprise security platform, including system integration, lifecycle management, modernization, automation, and cybersecurity coordination.
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory and corporate security requirements, such as NERC CIP, TSA Security Directives, CFATS where applicable, cybersecurity controls, and corporate physical security standards.
- Proven ability to lead security technology deployments and capital projects, including budgeting, scheduling, risk management, vendor performance, service-level agreements, and cross-functional delivery with Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Facilities, and business partners.
- Strong strategic planning, operational judgment, financial management, documentation, and risk-based decision-making capabilities, with the ability to translate business and compliance needs into sustainable technical solutions.
- Effective communication, collaboration, and influence skills, with demonstrated ability to lead change, promote continuous improvement, and advise stakeholders on emerging security technologies and industry practices.
- Professional certification such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Project Management Professional (PMP), or an equivalent credential.
The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $112,200.00 to $159,400.00 per year
