Full Job Description
Reporting directly to the Chief of Police/Executive Director of Public Safety, manages all security alarms, cameras, access control programs and devices; maintains identification badge software and coordinates service and maintenance contracts for all entities on the BIDMC network. Coordinates with BILH Project Managers regarding renovations to existing BILH facilities and new construction of BILH properties that require security hardware/software at BIDMC and other BILH facilities as directed by the Chief of Police/Executive Director of Public Safety.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Oversees administration of all security systems and support functions conducted by the BIDMC Public Safety Department.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders throughout the BILH community, establishing a secure and safe environment. Works closely with Employee Health & Safety, Radiation Safety, Facilities Planning & Maintenance, Information Systems, Care Group and other BIDMC-related organizations as necessary.
  • Maintains high quality standards within access control, CCTV and radio systems making timely reports of system status changes, as well as, developing related policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates projects, repairs or special system issues with security vendors and BIDMC stakeholders.
  • Oversees and maintains photo ID system, its database and all photo ID-related materials for the BILH system.
  • Continually evaluates existing system and proposes security technology improvements, balancing safety and cost effectiveness, to make capital project recommendations.
  • Maintains contact with members of the BILH Information Systems staff regarding any system upgrades, updates or repairs.
  • Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget related to security infrastructure.
  • Monitors all panic alarms on a monthly basis for BIDMC network.
  • Monitors all panic alarms on a quarterly basis for BIDMC network off sites including infusion centers.
  • Managing/maintaining CCURE access control systems, CCTV systems, Computer-Aided-Dispatch (IMC) systems, personnel photo identification systems & database, department telephone/radio recording (NICE) systems, assisting the OB/Neonatology Dept. in maintaining the TotGuard (infant protection) System, maintaining the LobbyTrack Visitor ID system, ensuring all these systems are up-to-date with their latest software versions
  • Managing/maintaining the Public Safety Department radio system; dispatch consoles, portable radios and mobile radios and ensuring our FCC Licenses are up-to-date
  • Initiate, monitor and document annual testing of all security-related systems and their integrations to other building operations systems (i.e. fire alarm, IC Units, waste detectors, etc.)
  • Work with BIDMC Facilities Project Managers on planning and implementation of access control systems and CCTV systems projects including planning out deployment of new equipment and hardware
  • Management, planning and implementation of access control systems and CCTV systems projects including planning out deployment of new equipment and hardware for projects assigned directly to me by Facilities (Project Manager)
  • Maintaining knowledge of state, local and federal laws and codes involving installation of security access control systems and CCTV systems including patient confidentiality laws, regulations and expectations
  • Work with representatives from various departments and entities within the BILH System (including BIDMC, BILH-Lahey, Joslin, APG/BIDCO and HMFP) to maintain a good relationship with our department and assist these entities with their needs for security systems, photo identifications and guidance on security issues and needs
  • Complete assignments and tasks assigned by the Chief of Police/Director of Security with regards to security needs/concerns brought to him by Medical Center Administration/Managers
  • Assist BIDMC Police Lieutenants, Sergeants and Detectives in any investigations where CCTV video and/or access control systems information is needed
  • Maintain a relationship with BIDMC's Telecommunications, Network Services and Information Technology services to ensure security systems, department telephones and all department computers operate normally; assist IT department with deployment of new or replacement workstations within Public Safety
  • Maintain a relationship with BIDMC Facility Managers from off-campus facilities to ensure those facilities are electronically secured properly, have adequate CCTV coverage and the personnel working in the facilities are properly provided with photo IDs and access cards
  • Maintain a relationship with BIDMC/BILH Human Resources to ensure accurate transactions with photo ID/access card records for New Hire Employees and Terminated Employees within the CCURE System
  • Maintain a relationship with other institutions in the LMA and Fenway areas (Dana Farber, Children's Hospital, Brigham & Women's, Harvard Vanguard, etc.) as well as MASCO to ensure open communications between BIDMC and those other institutions in regards to security systems-related issued, topics and discoveries
  • Maintain the role of liaison between the Public Safety Department and the BIDMC/BILH community and assist in creating a community based model and set high standards for cross-disciplinary work to improve customer service
  • Receive, maintain, track and distribute invoices (to be paid by BIDMC) received from the security systems integrator (currently ADT) for service requests, projects and quarterly contract invoices
  • Assist the Lead Dispatcher in ensuring that dispatch operations function smoothly and efficiently
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Public Safety Director.


Required Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or GED required. Associate's degree in Computer, Information Systems or related field. Preferred.

2. 3-5 years related work experience required.

3. Strong understanding of security systems and principles.

4. Excellent customer service skills are essential.

5. Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Minimum 2-3 years security systems experience is preferred.

Pay Range:
$70,000.00 USD - $105,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
