As a Security Specialist
, you will:- Serve as the Senior Security Specialist and is the point of contact and subject matter expert in the application and training of one or more safeguards and security training programs.
- Perform analysis of security trends and indicators based on review of information and documents provided by Field Office. Prepares correspondence, reports, and briefing materials for both internal and external audiences.
- Research and maintain currency and extensive technical authority and knowledge of the regulations, statutes, orders, policies and processes associated with their assigned guideline(s).
- Responsible for providing technical direction, advice, and guidance to the Safeguards and Security team, ensuring that the overall objectives of the NNSA and NA-LA S&S Programs are met. The incumbent assigns, coordinates and reviews work assignments, instructs and mentors employees on job processes and techniques, interprets and implements organizational policies and procedures, and provides on-the-job training.

Trial periods served in the same position and agency with no break in service will satisfy the requirement.QualificationsTo qualify at the NQ-03 grade level, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the NQ-02 (GS-12) grade level.Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience in a field of security that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of established and advanced security principles, procedures, and analytical techniques; as well as experience designing and conducting security surveys, self-assessments, and audits.
Examples of specialized experience include:- Planning, scheduling, and conducting projects and studies to evaluate and recommend ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of security programs.
- Analyzing and measuring the effectiveness and efficiency of management programs such as oversight of security topical areas and audit programs.
To qualify at the NQ-04 grade level, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the NQ-03 (GS-14) grade level. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience that demonstrates the ability to independently manage, design, evaluate, and provide authoritative advice on complex, multi-functional security programs.
Examples of specialized experience include:- Providing strategic program leadership and expert advisory to diagnose systemic security risks.
- Managing complex high-visibility security self-assessments, vulnerability analyses and establish corrective action plans to mitigate security risks.
- Demonstrates leadership ability.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate with key stakeholders/director/executive level senior management.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

If you are eligible for career transition assistance plans such as ICTAP or CTAP, you must meet the definition of "well qualified" which is defined as having a score of 85 or better.
