Description
Role Overview We are seeking an experienced and strategic Production Manager to oversee the integrated operations of our electrical component manufacturing facility. This role encompasses the management of our machine shop and our mold shop. The successful candidate will be responsible for optimizing production workflows, maintaining high quality-control standards, ensuring facility safety, and driving operational efficiency during this period of company growth and transition.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Direct and coordinate the daily operations of both the machine shop and the mold shop to meet production schedules and delivery deadlines.
Monitor production KPIs (OEE, scrap rates, throughput) to identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
Manage facility resources, including equipment maintenance, raw material inventory, and shop floor staffing.
Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) that ensure consistency and speed across shifts.
Develop and manage a preventative maintenance program aimed at maximizing machine uptime and extending equipment life.
Process Improvement & Efficiency
Operational Excellence: Drive the adoption of Lean Manufacturing, 5G, or Six Sigma methodologies to eliminate waste, reduce cycle times, and optimize material usage across both machine and mold shops.
Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize real-time production data to build and maintain performance dashboards (e.g., tracking OEE, downtime, and yield) to proactively address inefficiencies before they impact profitability.
Workflow Optimization: Evaluate current floor layouts and production sequences to improve material flow and minimize transit time between machining and molding processes.
Cost Reduction Initiatives: Analyze production costs and overhead to identify opportunities for reducing energy consumption, waste, and tooling expenses without compromising product quality.
Capacity Planning: Lead periodic reviews of production capacity versus demand to ensure the facility is operating at peak efficiency while maintaining the flexibility to scale operations as needed.
Technical & Quality Oversight
Oversee precision machining processes (metal and Teflon) and rubber molding operations, ensuring adherence to strict engineering specifications.
Champion a "Quality First" culture by enforcing rigorous quality assurance protocols and continuous improvement initiatives (Lean/Six Sigma).
Coordinate with engineering and design teams to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and streamline product design for manufacturability.
Personnel & Safety Management
Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of skilled machinists, mold operators, and support staff.
Ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety policies; foster a proactive safety-first work environment.
Manage labor scheduling, performance reviews, and training programs to ensure a high-performing workforce.
Strategic & Administrative
Collaborate with senior leadership to forecast capacity, plan capital improvements, and manage operational budgets.
Maintain accurate inventory levels and work with procurement to ensure a consistent supply chain for metals, plastics, and rubber resins.
Lead efforts to integrate advanced manufacturing technologies or AI-driven process improvements into existing workflows.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing) or a related field.
Experience: Minimum 7-10 years of plant management or senior production supervisory experience in a multi-discipline manufacturing environment.
Technical Knowledge: * Demonstrated proficiency in CNC machining (metal/Teflon) and rubber molding processes.
Performance Metrics: Demonstrated history of utilizing data to achieve measurable improvements in manufacturing KPIs (e.g., a proven track record of reducing scrap rates by X% or increasing throughput by Y%).
Continuous Improvement: Strong track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams through major process improvement projects or site-wide efficiency initiatives.
Strong understanding of electrical component manufacturing requirements.
Skills: * Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and data-driven reporting (e.g., Excel/Google Sheets dashboards).
Proven ability to manage diverse teams in a fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
