Job Description

ACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE AT THE TS/SCI POLYGRAPH LEVEL IS REQUIRED

We are seeking an experienced Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to join our team. In this critical role, you will perform technical security assessments of computing environments, identify vulnerabilities, ensure compliance with established Information Assurance (IA) standards, and engineer robust mitigation strategies that protect mission-critical operations. As an ISSE at Nyla, you won't just audit documentation-you will actively architect, integrate, and deploy IA and security functionality directly into system components across networking, computing, and complex multi-enclave environments with differing classification levels. Working closely with systems architects and developers, you'll ensure that Agency security policies and enterprise solutions are applied uniformly throughout the engineering life cycle. If you are an ever-curious cybersecurity professional passionate about risk analysis, security authorization, and building security into systems from the ground up, Team Nyla is looking for you.

The annual base salary range for this role is $197,000-$232,000 (USD) , which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.

Required Skills

System Security Design & Architecture: Applied expertise in designing, building, and deploying IA components in networking, computing, and multi-enclave environments.

Risk Management Framework (RMF): Practical experience navigating and executing security authorization activities under the DoD RMF, NIST RMF, and NISCAP guidelines.

Vulnerability & Assessment Expertise: Hands-on experience conducting technical security assessments, identifying vulnerabilities, and developing mitigation strategies.

Life Cycle System Security Engineering: Proven knowledge of security engineering principles across the software/system lifecycle, including configuration control, change management, incident handling, and auditing.

Core IA Principles: In-depth understanding of confidentiality, integrity, availability, non-repudiation, access control, identification, authentication, and authorization.

Cross-Domain & Cryptography Knowledge: Familiarity with cross-domain solutions, commercial (COTS) and government (GOTS) cryptography, and intrusion detection systems.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, PLUS 15+ years of professional software development experience OR High School Diploma / GED, PLUS 19+ years of hands-on technical software engineering experience in lieu of a degree.

Desired Skills

Deep familiarity with prescribed NSA/CSS business processes for security engineering and certification.

Experience in contingency planning, incident handling, and live operational threat mitigation.

Advanced cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CISSP, ISSEP, CASP+, or CISM).
