Job Description

The Scientist III role is responsible for leading process improvements, process resolutions, tech transfers, and GP improvement projects at a Bioprocess manufacturing setting. He/she works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation using scientific and problem-solving tools while following GMP policies and procedures. The role is accountable for leading and executing projects with coordination across the manufacturing site(s).

Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute experiments and projects at the pilot and manufacturing scale to support data generation and analysis.
  • Formulate and conduct systematic investigations of product and process problem areas with minimal guidance.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, including protocols and reports, and plan appropriate follow-up experiments based on findings.
  • Track projects progress and current developments that affect the overall project and business portfolio
  • Apply scientific and engineering principles to execute project assignments.
  • Plan, prioritize, schedule, and execute project deliverables within required timelines with minimal guidance.
  • Lead projects and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Regulatory, Quality, Procurement, Research and Development, Engineering, and Operations.
  • Maintain effective relationships with technical support teams across the organization.
  • Understand key issues related to ongoing departmental projects and help determine appropriate courses of action.
  • Lead process efficiency improvement and lead-time reduction projects.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain SOPs and logbooks related to troubleshooting, experimental planning, and data gathering.
  • Assess changes to manufacturing processes, test protocols, products, and raw materials, and provide feedback on requirements needed for proper evaluation.
  • Review and provide input on strategies for process and material qualifications.
  • Interpret experimental results and communicate findings to cross-functional teams to support decision-making.
  • Prepare and deliver functional presentations, summaries, and reports using standard formats and appropriate grammar and punctuation.
  • Interface with other departments, facilities, and corporate partners to support product development.
  • Follow all Waters housekeeping and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.


Education:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or other related field


Experience:
  • 5 years' experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Prior experience with protein chemistry, conjugation, purification, and/or flow cytometry. Proficient in handling infectious biological samples is a plus.
  • Experience developing or improving manufacturing processes for medical devices or pharmaceutical products.


Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practices, Quality Systems and Operational Process Optimization.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory practices, statistics, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with Lean, Six Sigma and Operational Excellence tools, highly recommended.
  • Fully bilingual, English and Spanish.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge and practical ability in a variety of complex laboratory procedures, established techniques, instruments and equipment.
  • Knowledge of process, product and material validations.
  • Proficient with MS office suite. Working knowledge of Minitab or other statistical software is a plus.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including data and results presentation to team members.
