Your Role:In this role, you will apply chemical process safety principles to help ensure that chemical manufacturing processes are thoroughly understood, effectively controlled, and operated safely. Using thermal analysis, reaction calorimetry, chemical process knowledge, and sound scientific judgment, you will identify reaction hazards and translate technical findings into practical safeguards for processes and products. You will collaborate with product development, process engineering, EHS, and chemical manufacturing teams to evaluate and mitigate risks associated with chemical reactions and processing conditions. You will also support the continued development of the Hazard Evaluation program through innovative approaches, including process analytical technology (PAT) and data-rich experimentation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conduct Thermal & Reaction Hazard Evaluations: Perform comprehensive risk assessments on chemical processes, establishing safe operating boundaries with a primary focus on thermal stability and reaction hazards.
- Execute Calorimetry & Thermal Analysis: Utilize DSC, ARC, RSD, and RC-1 techniques to design laboratory experiments, characterize exothermic and endothermic reactions, and interpret process safety data.
- Lead Formal Risk Reviews: Participate actively in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), HAZOPs, and FMEA sessions to identify potential hazards and recommend practical risk-reduction safeguards.
- Generate Technical Documentation: Author Process Hazard Evaluation (PHE) reports, Grinding Assessments, and detailed technical summaries outlining safety protocols and process improvement opportunities.
- Partner Cross-Functionally: Collaborate with Product Development, Process Engineering, EHS, and Manufacturing to provide scientific guidance on chemical reaction hazards and achieve project goals.
- Communicate Findings & Drive Engagement: Facilitate technical meetings and deliver clear presentations that translate complex hazard findings into actionable safety practices for production teams.
- Support Audits & Process Troubleshooting: Provide technical expertise during internal and external audits while conducting targeted literature searches to assist project investigations and troubleshooting.
- Advance Program Innovation: Drive continuous improvement in hazard evaluation methodologies by integrating Process Analytical Technology (PAT) and data-rich experimental strategies.
