Job Description

SAIC is seeking a Ground Systems Engineer to support our customer at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico. As the Systems Engineer, your responsibility is to support and oversee all information technology aspects of satellite ground system integration and maintenance. You will work closely with a team of engineers and technicians to ensure the success of the mission. Your job includes designing and implementing new technology solutions, troubleshooting technical issues, and providing technical support. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all systems are running smoothly and efficiently, as well as staying up to date with the latest advancements in ground and cloud-based technology. Your role is crucial in maintaining the operation of space systems, and your innovative ideas and problem-solving skills will be highly valued.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Work with cross functional teams (networking, systems admins, cyber, hardware, etc.) to develop, integrate, maintain, sustain, and retire legacy satellite ground systems supporting Space Systems Command
  • Create Engineering Review Board (ERB) and Change Control Board (CCB) presentations to document requirements, present the technical solution, propose the implementation strategy, and propose the test strategy
  • Create and maintain system documents such as the Interface Control Document, System Interface Document, network topologies, and data flow diagrams
  • Integrate and test supporting space ground systems hardware and software from various vendors; work with networking teams to configure and test interfaces; work with systems administration teams to test mission software
  • Draft and maintain supporting plans and procedures such as the system test plan, system implementation plan and system test procedures
  • Develop and maintain the implementation and test schedules with the customer
  • Advise the customer on test strategies for ground system integration and test; work with Satellite Control Network test centers as part of system integration and test
  • Integrate and test mobile ground systems supporting SV Factory Compatibility Test (FCT)
  • Work with cyberspace engineers to develop, integrate, and maintain a secure network
  • Collaborate with project engineering lead, systems engineers and other technical staff to identify, assess, and present options for meeting functional and technical requirements of satellite ground systems, which may include hardware and/or software
  • Ensure compliance with approved system engineering methods and quality standards, reviewing existing processes and developing solutions to increase productivity
  • Support tasks to design, analyze, install, manage, and configure advanced LAN and network systems, supporting mission essential systems
  • Maintain cognizance over technical activities and schedule milestones within program Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings and reviews
  • Support other activities as needed and as requested


Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field and 9+ years of technical experience; Masters and 7 years of experience
  • Active Top Secret or DoE Q clearance with SCI eligibility (must be eligible for SCI indoctrination within first 3 months of start date) and be able to obtain and maintain TS/SCI
  • Minimum 3 years' direct experience in space systems, space command and control, or equivalent relevant disciplines including industry (development contractor), DoD or other agency (NRO, NSA, NASA, etc.) background
  • Able to build and maintain relationships and partnerships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, including a strong ability to communicate program status; orally, written and visually


Desired
  • Project Management fundamentals with a focus on building schedules
  • Familiar with ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and the DoD Systems Engineering Guidebook
  • Familiar with IT Cloud Fundamentals
  • Familiar with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Familiar with supporting components such as firewalls, cryptographic hardware, databases, routing and network-based protocols, and virtualization technologies
  • CompTIA Security + or equivalent certification required for DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level 2 compliance and able to obtain environment certification within 6 months of start
