Job Description Summary

How will you make an impact & Requirement

The SAP Operations and Warehousing Architect is a senior solution authority spanning the full operational supply chain – from demand signal to dock door. This role owns the SAP architecture across Procurement, Production Planning, Demand Management, Warehouse Management, and Logistics Execution, ensuring that materials are planned, sourced, manufactured, stored, and shipped through tightly integrated, automated processes. As a cross-functional leader, this person partners directly with Operations, Supply Chain Planning, Manufacturing, and Procurement leadership to translate business requirements into scalable SAP solutions that drive operational performance across the enterprise.

Primary Responsibility

Own the end-to-end architecture, design governance, and delivery of SAP capabilities supporting the operational supply chain – encompassing Demand Management (APO/IBP or S/4HANA), Production Planning (PP/PP-PI), Procurement and Materials Management (MM), Warehouse Management (WM/EWM), and Logistics Execution (LE) – ensuring every process from forecast to fulfilment is integrated, automated, and aligned with manufacturing and distribution strategy.

What You’ll Do

The SAP Operations and Warehousing Architect will lead design and delivery across the full plan-to-ship process chain, working closely with operations, planning, manufacturing, procurement, and IT stakeholders to ensure SAP supports every stage of the physical supply chain without gaps or manual workarounds.

  • Lead the demand and supply planning architecture in SAP – designing MRP and demand management configurations that translate sales forecasts and customer orders into accurate material requirements, procurement proposals, and production schedules, ensuring planning signals flow cleanly through to procurement and manufacturing without excess inventory or supply gaps.
  • Own the Procurement and Materials Management (MM) architecture – governing the source-to-receive process including purchase requisitions, purchase orders, source lists, info records, and goods receipt – ensuring procurement execution is automated, vendor-managed where applicable, and that every goods receipt immediately drives the downstream warehouse and inventory processes.
  • Architect the Production Planning (PP/PP-PI) integration with the broader supply chain – designing how production orders and process orders are generated, scheduled, and executed, how component availability is confirmed against warehouse stock, and how production confirmations flow back to inventory and costing without requiring manual reconciliation.
  • Design and govern the end-to-end warehouse architecture in SAP WM/EWM – from inbound goods receipt and put-away through internal transfers, manufacturing staging, finished-goods storage, and outbound picking – ensuring every physical movement in the warehouse is system-directed, traceable, and tied to a business transaction in MM, PP, or SD.
  • Own the integration between the warehouse and manufacturing floor – configuring production supply areas and staging zones so that raw materials and components are automatically pulled from storage and staged at the right work centre ahead of production, with replenishment triggered by production demand and confirmed back through the system when materials are consumed.
  • Architect automated replenishment across the warehouse network – ensuring picking bins, manufacturing staging areas, and intermediate storage locations are restocked automatically before stock runs out, with replenishment logic that responds to both current bin levels and forward-looking production and fulfilment demand.
  • Connect warehouse execution to outbound fulfilment – designing the integration between SD delivery processing and WM so that when a shipment is created, warehouse tasks are automatically generated, stock is picked, packed, and goods-issued, and delivery status flows back to SD and billing without manual hand-offs.
  • Own the Logistics Execution (LE) architecture – including shipping point determination, route planning, outbound delivery scheduling, shipment document management, and carrier coordination – ensuring the LE layer operates as the reliable bridge between warehouse operations and customer delivery commitments.
  • Define and govern master data architecture across the operational supply chain – including material master views for planning, procurement, production, and warehouse execution; vendor master and purchasing info records; and batch and handling-unit profiles – ensuring master data decisions are coordinated across MM, PP, and WM and do not create downstream constraints.
  • Act as the cross-functional solution authority across MM, PP, WM/EWM, LE, and SD, resolving integration design conflicts before they reach build, reviewing functional specifications across streams, and ensuring that process decisions made in one area do not introduce workarounds or manual steps in another.
  • Lead structured solution design workshops with Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Procurement leadership, translating operational requirements into SAP architecture and communicating design decisions clearly to both technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • Govern end-to-end integration testing from procurement receipt through production through to shipment, ensuring test scenarios cover the complete material journey and that defects are resolved at the design level rather than through configuration patches.
  • Drive continuous improvement post go-live – using operational data and stakeholder feedback to identify planning bottlenecks, warehouse inefficiencies, and integration gaps, and evolving the SAP architecture as production volumes and supply chain complexity grow.

What Experience and Education You Need

  • 12+ years of SAP functional experience spanning the operational supply chain, with a minimum of two full end-to-end SAP implementations where Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Warehouse Management were all in scope.
  • Proven ability to architect and deliver integrated solutions across MM, PP, and WM/EWM – with a track record of connecting planning signals to procurement, procurement to warehouse receipt, warehouse to manufacturing, and manufacturing output to outbound fulfilment.
  • Deep hands-on experience across the full operations process chain:
  • Demand & Supply Planning: MRP configuration, demand management, planning strategies (MTS, MTO, MPS), planned order management, and capacity planning.
  • Procurement (MM): purchase orders, scheduling agreements, goods receipt, invoice verification, source lists, and purchasing info records.
  • Production Planning (PP/PP-PI): production orders and process orders, component availability checks, production scheduling, confirmation processing, and GI/GR to production.
  • Warehouse Management (WM/EWM): warehouse structure, put-away and picking strategies, transfer order management, manufacturing staging, bin replenishment, and physical inventory.
  • Logistics Execution (LE): outbound delivery management, shipping point and route determination, shipment processing, and goods-issue integration with SD.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional design sessions and producing solution architecture documentation that operations and supply chain leaders can understand, challenge, and approve.
  • Strong understanding of how master data decisions in MM, PP, and WM interact – including material master views, batch management, and warehouse configuration settings – and experience governing master data design across those boundaries.
  • Experience working directly with Operations, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain Planning stakeholders to translate business requirements into SAP design – not just taking requirements from IT.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

What Could Set You Apart

  • Experience with SAP IBP (Integrated Business Planning) or APO for demand planning, supply planning, or S&OP, and the ability to connect planning outputs directly to SAP execution processes in MM and PP.
  • Hands-on experience with S/4HANA Embedded EWM or Decentralised EWM (dEWM), including advanced wave management, slotting, yard management, and labor management, and the ability to recommend the right warehouse architecture for the business context.
  • Familiarity with SAP Manufacturing Execution (ME) or MES integration, and experience designing the handoff between SAP PP and shop-floor execution systems.
  • Experience with SAP TM (Transportation Management) and how carrier management and freight execution integrate with EWM and SD to close the outbound fulfilment loop.
  • Knowledge of SAP QM integration across the supply chain – goods-receipt inspection, in-process quality checks, and usage decisions that affect warehouse stock availability and production scheduling.
  • Experience integrating SAP operations processes with external systems – contract manufacturers, 3PLs, WCS platforms, or automation controllers – via SAP BTP, PI/PO, or equivalent middleware.
  • Exposure to SAP Batch Management and shelf-life / FEFO management for regulated, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting multi-site or global SAP rollouts where planning, procurement, and warehouse configurations need to be standardised across locations while accommodating site-level operational differences.
  • SAP certifications in S/4HANA Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Extended Warehouse Management, or Solution Architecture.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive base salary and annual performance bonus. Our benefits package includes comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with company match, flexible paid time off, and ongoing learning and development programs.
