Sanitarian 5, you'll oversee diverse public health initiatives, guide a team of environmental health professionals, and ensure compliance with regulations that safeguard residents and visitors. Minimum QualificationsPossession of a current Louisiana Sanitarian's license plus one of the following:
Four years of experience as a sanitarian; OR
A master's degree in public health, food science, dairy science, environmental or sanitary science, or one of the physical or biological sciences plus three years of experience as a sanitarian.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:
- Plan, direct, and evaluate parish environmental health operations to ensure effective delivery of regulatory programs and public health services.
- Supervise and develop environmental health staff by establishing performance expectations, conducting evaluations, approving leave and travel, coordinating training, and participating in hiring and disciplinary actions.
- Oversee administrative functions by maintaining program records, preparing required reports, processing applications and fees, and ensuring compliance with agency policies and procedures.
- Manage environmental health permitting and inspection activities for retail food establishments, private water wells, and individual sewerage systems while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
- Monitor staff productivity, inspection frequencies, travel activities, and program performance to promote efficient operations and high-quality service delivery.
- Conduct field inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities, including complaint investigations, food safety enforcement, disease outbreak response, post-disaster assessments, and regulatory compliance actions.
- Provide technical guidance and represent the Office of Public Health by collaborating with government agencies, community partners, and elected officials, supporting public health initiatives, and participating in legal and educational activities.
