Safety & Training Manager


General Responsibilites:

Safety & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Lead safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, hazard analyses, and incident investigations while driving corrective actions to completion.
  • Serve as the facility subject matter expert for safety compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage workers' compensation programs, injury case management, return-to-work initiatives, and safety reporting requirements for both Mocksville locations and field offices.
  • Oversee personal protective equipment (PPE), hazardous materials programs, fire protection systems, emergency preparedness, and asset protection initiatives.
  • Partner with facility leadership to proactively identify risks and implement preventive solutions.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, hazard awareness, and employee ownership of safety performance.

Training & Workforce Development

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver engaging training programs related to safety, environmental compliance, operational processes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain training systems, certifications, qualifications, and records to ensure compliance and workforce readiness.
  • Assess training needs and partner with department leaders to identify skill gaps and development opportunities.
  • Coach leaders and team members on best practices, safe work behaviors, and continuous learning.
  • Promote employee growth through effective onboarding, developmental training, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Ensure training programs are effective, measurable, and aligned with operational objectives.

Environmental & Sustainability Leadership

  • Lead and maintain the facility's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and reporting requirements.
  • Manage environmental audits, corrective actions, and compliance documentation.
  • Drive initiatives focused on waste reduction, resource conservation, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
  • Promote environmental awareness and accountability throughout the organization.

Continuous Improvement & Operational Support

  • Support operational excellence initiatives through GEMBA activities, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Provide safety leadership and guidance for capital projects, equipment installations, and process changes.
  • Ensure new and modified equipment meets all applicable safety standards before implementation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve safety performance, compliance, productivity, and employee engagement.
  • Analyze trends and performance data to develop strategic improvement plans and measurable outcomes.

Leadership & Culture

  • Build strong relationships across all levels of the organization through trust, respect, and effective communication.
  • Lead with patience, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to employee development.
  • Serve as a coach and mentor who helps employees and leaders understand not just what to do, but why it matters.
  • Champion a safety-first culture where every employee feels empowered to speak up, participate, and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, policies, procedures, and communications related to program performance and compliance initiatives.

What We're Looking For

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, Human Resources, Business, Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in safety, training, environmental management, manufacturing operations, or a related field.
  • Experience leading safety and compliance programs within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, workers' compensation, environmental compliance, and risk management practices.
  • Proven experience developing and delivering effective training and educational programs.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and coaching skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business systems.
  • Ability to occasionally work outside normal business hours to support training, investigations, audits, emergency response activities, or operational needs.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to respond to workplace incidents, emergencies, and investigations that may require walking long distances, climbing stairs, or accessing various areas of the facility.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), OSHA certification, or equivalent professional credential.
  • Experience leading ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Green Belt, or Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, equipment commissioning, and manufacturing startups.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and training administration.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.

Other Job Responsibilities and Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 45 lbs. unassisted with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials weighing more than 45 lbs. using team lifting procedures.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods (8-12 hours per shift).Ability to safely move throughout manufacturing, warehouse, and office environments.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs and ladders, and access elevated work areas as required.
  • Ability to visually inspect equipment, work areas, and safety conditions, including reading documentation, labels, gauges, and computer screens.
  • Ability to use hands, wrists, and fingers for handling materials, writing, conducting inspections, and computer work.
  • Frequent use of computers, keyboards, tablets, scanners, and other electronic devices.Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and group settings, including conducting employee training and presentations.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work safely in manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to work in a loud, fast-paced industrial environment with moving equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environmental conditions.
  • Ability to respond to workplace incidents, emergencies, audits, and investigations as needed.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel occasionally in support of business needs.
  • Performs all other duties and special projects assigned by supervisor.
