Job Summary:The Safety Specialist ensures compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations by administering training programs and investigating incidents. They make safety recommendations, prepare reports, and audits with the goal to foster positive relationships with customers and promote the company's safety program.
Essential Functions:- Administer employee training programs.
- Makes environmental, health, and safety recommendations.
- Ensures compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses. Writes reports with findings.
- Evaluate current best practices and then prepare reports and implement corrective actions.
- Develop relationships with our customers at the local and corporate levels to promote and incorporate the company's safety program.
Job Requirements and QualificationsExperience:- 5-10 years of experience as a dedicated safety professional.
- Prior DOT Compliance experience is a plus.
- Prior heavy civil construction experience.
Skills:- Strong written, verbal communications and teaching skills.
- Knowledge of job safety analysis, job instructions training, and ability to write Site Specific Safety Plans and job hazard analysis (JHA's).
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft programs such as excel, outlook, PowerPoint.
Education/ Certifications:- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 4-year Degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety is a preferred.
- Safety Professional designation and/or OSHA 500/510 Certifications is a plus.
Other Information:- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, lifting.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work in all types of weather, walk, and stand for extended periods of time
- Must be physically able to perform the work outside in hot and/ or cold weather conditions.
- Must be able to work in a construction environment.
- Must be able to walk slopes and uneven terrain.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to successfully pass a drug test (including THC), MVR, and background check.
