The Role

This innovative engineer will be supporting the model creation needs for all of GM Defense Virtual Design, Development & Validation (VDDV), from component level to full vehicle integrated models, with a focus on Dyna model creation. This person will also be expected to provide support beyond model creation for analysis to assess performance in a wide array of safety domains (Vehicle, Occupant, RESS, PCEI, Sensing, etc.). They will also be required to have a strong sense of autonomy and independence, being enabled to make decisions with the ability to drive how GM Defense will operate in the VDDV modeling space and beyond, pioneering the future of GM Defense and Safety integration.

What You'll Do
  • Act as Modeling Lead to mentor and instruct GMD VDDV group related to tools and software updates, discipline in model standards consistent with all other user groups of GMNA, and be the point contact for all GMD model builds.
  • Create and develop CAE models using GM standard modeling guidelines, with the ability to interpret and adapt those standards for unique GM Defense requirements.
  • Stay active with GMNA CAE Model Management group and bridge the gap to our unique space, leveraging internal and external sources as needed (suppliers, business consortia, SAE, other OEMs).
  • Interface with key stakeholders including peers, DREs, Designers, Material Specialists, Global Simulation Owners, Technical Specialists, and the Program Team to enable efficient and timely model builds that meet unique GMD requirements.
  • Perform virtual simulation of various commodities, providing pre- and post-processing as well as documentation and summary of results with assumptions to demonstrate assessed requirements and expected performance.
  • Actively participate in the production of PA tools and creating or modifying for unique GMD environment and application, working with IT to ensure functionality.


Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics
  • 5+ years of related experience within product design and CAE industry
  • Ability to mentor, and provide global technical leadership
  • Scripting aptitude with Python, Tcl/Tk, AI or similar tools to enable efficiency and automation of repetitive tasks
  • Experienced with pre- and post-processing software tools: ANSA, Primer, LS-DYNA, Siemens NX, Teamcenter
  • High level of interpersonal skill to mentor local and cross-functional CAE members
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
  • Ability to function in an ambiguous environment where decisions need to be made with discipline and autonomy
  • DFSS black belt or similar certification
  • Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
