Overview

Shimmick is seeking a Safety Manager support our presence in Northern California. The Safety Manager supports the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the company’s Safety & Health Program across heavy civil construction projects. This role requires a proven ability to work in high-risk, complex environments and to foster a strong safety culture through engagement, training, and field leadership.

 

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under limited supervision, responsible for moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, safety and health disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains current knowledge of specific government agency requirements.
  • Exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of their environmental specialty.
  • Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions.
  • Develops, implements and maintains safety and health programs, systems and procedures.
  • Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases in the work area.
  • Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.
  • Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards.
  • Develops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs.
  • Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
  • May act as a lead role for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel.
  • May administer an ES&H program on a small or medium-sized project.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Must be able to maintain 3 points of contact when climbing a ladder.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Heavy Civil construction.
  • Knowledge of Cal/OSHA Mining and Tunneling regulations and their application to construction safety programs.
  • Competent Person Certifications ie: Confined/Enclosed Space, Fall Protection, Trenching & Excavation.
  • NFPA 70E Training Certificate
  • Envirnmental Stormwater safety
  • OSHA 30, 500, 510 Certifications
  • CHST Certification.
  • STSC Certification.

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

The salary range for this position is between $125,000-$150,000 per year depending on experience and/or education.
