Full Job Description
Longwood Gardens is seeking a full-time Safety Manager to lead our organization-wide safety, compliance, and risk management programs. Reporting to the Director of Security, this role serves as a key partner to leaders across the organization, advancing a culture of safety while ensuring regulatory compliance, operational readiness, and the well-being of employees, guests, volunteers, and contractors. Responsibilities include: - Leading the development and execution of Longwood Gardens' safety and risk management strategy. - Ensuring compliance with applicable safety regulations and industry's best practices. - Staying informed of emerging trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in occupational safety and risk management. - Fostering a culture of safety through training, education, employee engagement, and leadership partnership. - Oversee safety programs, audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action planning. - Supporting emergency preparedness, business continuity, and organizational resilience initiatives. - Building relationships with regulatory agencies, industry organizations and contractors, vendors to support compliance and operational readiness. - Monitoring safety metrics, identify trends, and provide recommendations that drive continuous improvement. - Supporting departmental planning, budgeting, and resource management. - Responding to emergencies and support organizational operations as needed. The ideal candidate will possess: - A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. - A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, risk management, or a related field, including leadership experience. - a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification required; Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification preferred. - Strong knowledge of occupational safety regulations, compliance requirements, and risk management principles. - Demonstrated success leading safety programs and influencing a culture of safety across an organization. - Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. - The ability to analyze information, make sound decisions, and effectively manage priorities in a dynamic environment. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business systems. - The ability to work flexible hours and respond to emergencies as needed. - The ability to move through a large indoor and outdoor campus environment. - The ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions and respond to emergency situations. - The ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, lift, carry, and move equipment or materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
