Your Position Overview

As the Safety Manager, you will be responsible for supporting and promoting our safety culture, Life Saving Rules, safety programs, and strategy.

The primary function of the position is to manage health and safety programs and provide technical support to all the lines of business: Aggregates, Asphalt, Construction, Ready-mix Concreate, and Transportations. You will develop, implement, and manage programs and procedures that promote a safe, responsible, healthful, and compliant work environment. You will conduct audits and inspections to ensure programmatic compliance and provide solutions to audit findings. You will provide service, technical support and compliance guidance to supervisors and employees, as well as act as a liaison with regulatory agencies.

Your Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Assist in maintaining a high level of safety compliance and awareness at company fixed locations (asphalt plants, construction sites, offices, shops, ready-mix plants, and quarry locations) through site visits and documentation of deficiencies.
  • Work directly with site safety teams, line of business leaders, and field crews on a regular basis to promote company safety philosophies, expectations, and personal responsibility.
  • Perform audits and inspections to identify and correct potential hazards or provide solutions to ensure that sites can consistently maintain regulatory compliance; monitor, interpret and analyze safety data to support business needs. Influence our teams and provide coaching on safe work actions and conditions.
  • Develop, coordinate, and/or present training and/or initiatives to small and large groups. including: Human Performance, MSHA New Miner Training, Smith Driving, MSHA/OSHA compliance programs, Safety Days, and other training as required.
  • Promote and facilitate safety innovations. Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, and physical work hazards. Including risk assessment, proactive identification of potential loss sources and workplace assessments.
  • Participate in the development or review of job hazard analyses and risk assessments with the goal of providing perspective, feedback, and proactively identifying potential risks.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a "need to know" basis.
  • Assist in environmental compliance and other duties as needed.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience
  • A bachelor's level degree in safety sciences, safety management, EHS applied sciences, or related health and safety degree, or a bachelor's degree in an engineering or scientific field with health and safety work experience and at least 2 - 4 years of related work experience, or an equivalent of education and experience.
    • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926 and MSHA regulation knowledge preferred.
  • Ability coach, influence, present, and train others
  • Excellent Computer skills, including MS Office programs and database management.
  • Strong written and presentation communication skills


General Requirements
  • Mobility to attend various meetings and events at offsite locations with some overnight stays required.
  • Hours are extended throughout the year to include nights and weekends when necessary.
  • 50% Travel locally to our various sites daily.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Ability to pass a drug/alcohol screening and background check.
  • Must have a valid Driver's license and a good driving record.


Preferred Competencies
  • Experience in Human Performance Implementation
  • Strong knowledge and experience with safety compliance management programs.
  • Experience with EHS management systems such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OSHAS 18000, ANSI Z10
