Full Job Description
The Role

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering the Company Safety Program and Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring continued compliance with applicable FAA requirements, including SMS requirements applicable to Part 135 operators by May 2027.

This role reports directly to the Director of Operations on all issues related to safety and health while being available to all departments as an advisor on safety and health related matters. Further, the Safety Manager will be tasked with the responsibility of chairing the Company Safety Committee and ensuring said organization has bi-annual formal Safety Meetings.

KeyResponsibilities

Safety Program Administration
  • Develop and implement safety and health programs for Company personnel to ensure they enjoy a safe, healthy work environment.
  • Ensure that all operations are conducted safely, in compliance with applicable regulations and in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Continually review and update the Company Safety Program to ensure effectiveness, regulatory compliance, currency, and applicability.
  • Disseminate all safety and health related information applicable to the Company's operating environment.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by leadership.


Hazard Identification & Risk Management
  • Immediately advise all levels of management of recognized hazards, unsafe/unhealthy, and potential unsafe/unhealthy working conditions.
  • Perform hazard assessments for the purpose of recommending changes in engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment.
  • Process Hazard and Incident Reports for the purpose of identifying and eliminating and/or mitigating workplace and operational hazards.
  • Monitor industry safety concerns and emerging operational risks that may impact Company operations.


Safety Assurance & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead implementation and continuous improvement of the Company's Safety Management System (SMS) in preparation for and compliance with FAA Part 5 effective May 2027.
  • Develop and maintain safety reporting systems and safety occurrence data necessary for trend analysis, risk identification, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform periodic facility safety audits and ensure deficiencies are corrected whether present in owned or contracted facilities.
  • Maintain Hazardous Substance Exposure Reports as necessary.


Safety Promotion & Training
  • Continually evaluate available training resources ensuring all employees are properly trained in the applicable areas, using appropriate methodology, by competent professionals.


Emergency Response & Regulatory Liaison
  • Develop and maintain an Emergency Response Program and ensure periodic review and testing of the program.
  • Maintain liaison with appropriate government regulatory agencies and other safety-related organizations, including the FAA and NTSB.


Qualifications
  • Extensive operational experience and professional qualifications including strong knowledge and understanding of 14 CFR Chapter 1 and Parts 1, 21, 23, 25, 43, 45, 47, 65, 91, 121, and 135.
  • Experience developing, implementing, or managing a Safety Management System (SMS) within an aviation environment.
  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory role in 14 CFR Part 135 or 121 air carrier.
  • 3 years' U.S. military aviation operations experience in a comparable position (OR) 3 years' supervisory experience in a U.S. Government aviation department, board, or agency.
  • Active FAA certificate (pilot, mechanic, or aircraft dispatcher).

  • Leadership and Communication: Proven skill in leading cross-departmental safety initiatives, facilitating committee meetings, and clearly communicating safety objectives to all employee levels.
  • Program Development and Continuous Improvement: Demonstrated capability in developing and managing safety programs and Emergency Response Plans, while driving continuous improvement through data analysis and performance metrics.
  • Collaboration and External Liaison: Strong ability to represent the company with external agencies, manage correspondence related to investigations, and foster a proactive safety culture across teams.
