Palmetto Propane, Fuels, and Ice is seeking a results driven Safety Director to lead and oversee the company's safety and compliance efforts across multiple locations in South Carolina and Georgia. This leadership role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive health, safety, and compliance programs that align with OSHA, NFPA, and DOT standards, as well as internal company policies.
The ideal candidate will bring deep regulatory knowledge, strong leadership skills, and a proactive approach to risk management and fostering a culture of safety.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Safety Department, ensuring the implementation of safety standards across all locations by collaborating with field managers to coordinate safety efforts across departments.
- Manage DOT and OSHA compliance, including Driver Qualification Files, CDL vehicle maintenance, and regulatory reporting.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs to minimize risks and ensure legal compliance.
- Administer the Propane Education and Research Council Education Program (PEP) following industry guidelines.
- Conduct routine facility and vehicle inspections; follow up on deficiencies to ensure a timely resolution.
- Manage the investigation of incidents and injuries; oversee workers' compensation claims and reporting.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NFPA 54 & 58, OSHA requirements, and emerging safety regulations to adapt policies and training accordingly.
- Coordinate with Department Managers on safety concerns, regulatory compliance, risk assessments, and corrective actions. Must be able to report safety data and identify risk patterns to propose preventative strategies.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through consistent communication, training, and leadership.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, or a related field (required)
- 3 to 5 years of experience in occupational health and safety within an industrial or propane/fuel industry setting.
- 5+ years proven success in safety leadership or compliance management role.
- Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record; CDL with Hazmat Endorsement preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, NFPA (54 & 58), and PERC standards and practices.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with proven abilities in report writing, organization, leadership, and analytics.
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and lead cross-functional teams.
- Ability to travel periodically (75% throughout South Carolina and Georgia).
