Job Summary

Position Summary

The Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) Director provides strategic, administrative, and operational leadership for the University of Kentucky's participation in Kentucky's Rural Health Transformation Program. The Director serves as the central point of coordination for a complex portfolio of initiatives involving the University of Kentucky, UK HealthCare, affiliated health systems, state agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders working to advance rural health transformation efforts throughout Kentucky.

The position is responsible for ensuring effective stewardship of program resources, fostering collaboration among participating organizations, and supporting successful achievement of program objectives funded through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and administered in partnership with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS). The Director will serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) for the CMS-funded collaborative grant and provide leadership and oversight for program implementation, compliance, reporting, and stakeholder engagement activities. Working closely with UK HealthCare leadership and operational teams, as well as external partners, the Director supports the development, implementation, and sustainability of new programs, services, and care delivery models that advance rural health transformation goals and create opportunities for long-term operational and financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the Rural Health Transformation Program portfolio.
  • Coordinate implementation of initiatives across participating University, healthcare, community, and affiliated partner organizations.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with state agencies, health systems, community organizations, and other external stakeholders.
  • Monitor program progress, performance measures, deliverables, and outcomes.
  • Oversee compliance with grant, contract, state, federal, and institutional requirements.
  • Support development and submission of required reports, documentation, and program deliverables.
  • Provide oversight of program budgets, resource allocation, and financial accountability requirements.
  • Facilitate collaboration among stakeholders and participating organizations.
  • Support identification and development of future funding opportunities and sustainability strategies.
  • Provide executive-level updates and recommendations regarding program progress, risks, opportunities, and strategic priorities.


Work Location

This position may be performed remotely within the Lexington area; however, the successful candidate must be available to attend in-person meetings and events as business needs require, including occasions where advance notice may be limited.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The successful candidate will bring significant experience leading complex initiatives that require collaboration across multiple organizations and stakeholder groups. Candidates should possess strong leadership, communication, financial management, and strategic planning skills, along with experience overseeing large-scale programs, grants, contracts, compliance activities, and organizational partnerships. Experience working within healthcare, higher education, government, or similarly complex environments is preferred. The ability to build consensus, navigate competing priorities, and drive successful implementation of strategic initiatives is essential.
