Administers, directs and integrates the organization's networks in a multiple platform, protocol and operating system environment. Maintain network hardware and software. Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.
- Plans, coordinates, implements and supports the LAN/WAN hardware, software and Internet/Intranet/Extranet integration and linkage
- Works closely with scientific staff to anticipate and meet program requirements for computational infrastructure
- Ability to work closely and coordinate with network and administrative groups on multiple levels
- May research vendor products and negotiates hardware/software maintenance contracts. Recommends purchase, development or enhancement of network hardware, software and telecommunications
- Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary
- Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware
- May be required to manage a Windows/Mac computer network of moderate size (100-200 devices)
- May be a representative of the department with external institutes and user groups
- May be responsible for user training sessions, training materials and documents
- May write scripts to manage and streamline computing queues and develop/implement policies and quotas on centralized cluster storage
The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate's relevant experience, skills and qualifications.
For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
