Job PurposeThis position will support Robotics Innovation activities with specific focus on robotic mechanical systems.
The primary goal of the
Robotics Mechanical Engineer, is to lead and execute the mechanical design of the robotic systems, being responsible for designing, developing, and implementing mechanical solutions for robotic systems (e.g. robotic arm, end-effector, gripper, machine design), collaborating with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications, holding design reviews, definition and evaluation of component and system costs versus achieved functionality.
Willingness to travel to gain product and functional experience and assist in the evaluation of the robotic systems in the field. Accountable to maintain project log on assigned tasks and work with team through development and implementation phases to meet timing.
Communicate with the engineering teams in the company to gather inputs and maintain alignment on activity resultsto coordinate the interrelated design and assure project completion following established design process. The individual in this position must be able to develop, maintain, and release necessary system specifications and documentation.
Key Responsibilities- Design robotic manipulators, end effectors, and automation equipment using 3D CAD
- Own the mechanical architecture of a robotic arm, including joints, linkages, and structural components
- Develop and use MATLAB models to evaluate kinematics, dynamics, and actuator requirements
- Select and integrate actuators, transmissions, and sensors into mechanical designs
- Build prototypes and develop test fixtures to evaluate performance, lifecycle, and reliability
- Perform or facilitate installation/testing related to the product, system, or process.
- Design for durability and operation in outdoor, agricultural environments
- Collaborate closely with controls, electronics, and software teams to ensure seamless system integration
- Guide interns from university for those activities related to the projects and new investigations where the candidate is directly involved
- Review and understand technologies and trends that will influence medium term and long term product plans
- Work closely to simulation teams in building &validation of different simulation models on the new systems developed
- Update the related management tools (TcAE, kpi-tool, CTS...)
- Create and update documentation for designs, and all phases of the project.
- Work with external customers, distributors, vendors, or suppliers to initiate new designs and solve problems.
- Coordinate engineering efforts and provide engineering assistance to internal teams or external customers.
Experience Required- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience designing mechanical systems that integrate actuators and sensors
- Strong understanding of kinematics and dynamics of serial robot manipulators
- Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks, Fusion 360)
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and iteration of physical hardware
- Ability to translate system-level requirements into robust mechanical design
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with pneumatic systems design and validation
- Experience designing automation or robotics for agricultural or outdoor environments
- Experience with gripper, end-effector, or compliant mechanism design
- Familiarity with designing for manufacturability and field serviceability
- Experience with off road machinery requirements and operations is a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment required with an open mindset
