What Your Day Will Look Like:


As a Roadway CAD Manager, you will provide leadership, direction, and technical oversight for a team of CAD designers and technicians supporting transportation infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for ensuring the production of high-quality design deliverables that meet project requirements, client expectations, industry standards, and company quality guidelines. This role oversees CAD standards implementation, software administration, workflow optimization, and quality control processes to drive consistency, efficiency, and accuracy across all project phases.

 

Working closely with project managers, engineers, and multidisciplinary design teams, you will coordinate staffing resources, establish production schedules, monitor project progress, and resolve technical challenges that may impact delivery. You will serve as the subject matter expert for CAD technologies, maintaining best practices, evaluating new tools and processes, and implementing continuous improvements to enhance productivity and project outcomes.

 

In addition to project execution responsibilities, you will mentor, train, and develop CAD staff, fostering technical growth, collaboration, and adherence to

organizational standards. The Transportation CAD Manager plays a critical role in supporting successful project delivery by balancing technical excellence, team leadership, resource management, and operational efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of CAD designers and technicians supporting transportation projects.
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce CAD standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Manage CAD software, system configurations, templates, and design resources.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance with project and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams to develop production schedules and allocate resources effectively.
  • Monitor project workloads, deliverables, and deadlines to ensure successful project execution.
  • Troubleshoot complex design and drafting issues and provide technical guidance to project teams.
  • Evaluate and implement process improvements and emerging technologies to enhance design efficiency and quality.
  • Support employee development through training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with company, client, and industry drafting standards and design procedures.

 

What You'll Need:

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, drafting, or a related field, or equivalent technical certifications.
  • 10+ years of practical CAD experience within a transportation design team.
  • Proficiency in CAD Bentley software, preferably MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer and workflow customization
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering design standards, quality control processes, and drafting best practices.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with experience mentoring and developing CAD technicians.
