Summary:
  • Under the supervision of the Clinical Administrator of GI, leads the day-to-day activities of Inpatient GI (GI) associates, facilitates orientation, competency and continuing education in conjunction with providing nursing care
Responsibilities:
  • 1. Plans and oversees the daily activities of the Inpatient GI area. Provides clinical supervision for all Outpatient GI Associates Ensures adequate staffing in Outpatient GI area to meet the needs of the unit, while demonstrating fiscal awareness Demonstrates fairness to associates at all times. Facilitates problem solving in collaboration with physicians, extenders and other departments Oversees appropriateness of inventory for the department Oversees that emergency equipment is functioning. Assists Clinical Administrator of GI in interviewing process of new hires Acts as a liaison for the Clinical Administrator on Outpatient GI issues Responsible for identifying and reporting of all risk issues and in collaboration with the Clinical Administrator of GI, reporting and resolution Ensures department compliance with hospital policy and procedures and regulatory agencies Reports all issues to Clinical Administrator of GI services in timely manner 2. Ensures orientation, competencies and continuing education of the Outpatient GI Associates Identifies clinical competencies for staff and assist with staff competency. Ensures staff competence and participates in improvement plans and counseling in collaboration with the Clinical Administrator of GI. Participates in new Associate orientation and ensures proper orientation of the associate Participates in performance review of Associates Provides feedback to Associates on an ongoing basis Maintains knowledge base of hospital department and regulatory policies in order to serve as a resource to physicians and associates Serves as a mentor to all associates 3. Actively participates in and supports departmental and organizational quality initiatives and goals Represents department on hospital committee or workgroups Ensures coordination of inter-departmental activities to provide quality care Facilitates and collaborative relationship with physicians through ongoing communication, interaction and attendance at meetings as appropriate. Assists with annual review and revision of all departmental policies and procedures. Participates in the development, revision and evaluation of Nursing Practice Guidelines for the Outpatient GI 4. Provides nursing care in a manner that promotes quality and patient safety Provides nursing duties as outlined in the GI Nurse job description Demonstrates clinical proficiency Prioritizes work during busy and emergent situations Assists associates in managing workflow Remains flexible with schedule to ensure proper staffing coverage and completion of tasks. 5.Maintains clinical competency according to unit-specific standards. Demonstrates competency in maintaining specific technological skills required by job category and/or specialty area. See individual department competencies for unit specific requirements. Demonstrates recognition of equipment or technological adaptations dependent on age-specific patient needs (See Scope of Practice as delineated in departmental standards and/or related Policy and Procedure in the Policy and Procedure Manual). Maintains technological competence through practice and ongoing participation in in-services and formalized professional conferences. Acquires and maintains proficiency in IV administration. Recognizes legal responsibilities and functions within limitations as specified by the Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act. Attends annual mandatory in-services: CPR Certification and ACLS for moderate sedation, Infection Control, Fire Safety/Disaster and Right to Know, Surgical Service Unit Specific Competencies (i.e. moderate sedation), RAHE
