RN Behavioral Health Asst Nurse Manager and Clinical Educator

Masonicare Behavioral Health Hospital - Wallingford, CT

Day Shift / 40hrs/wk

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Behavioral Health, will serve as educator and resource for the inpatient behavioral health hospital. Provide leadership to behavioral health team by creating framework of educational services that promote the growth and development of its licensed and unlicensed staff. Responsible for managing and leading clinical staff to ensure patient care standards are being met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Oversees and coordinates new hire orientation for Behavioral Health staff
  2. Oversees and coordinates Nursing Education programs, ensuring consistency with best practices and regulatory compliance:

  1. Educates staff on quarterly outcome improvement efforts
  2. Directs, Supervises, and Participates in the efforts to successfully orient new hires into clinical settings at the Behavioral Health Hospital
  3. Plans and evaluates training programs for licensed and unlicensed behavioral health staff.
  4. Utilizes Relias Learning Management System to track employee education and compliance, in accordance with the State of Connecticut DPH and CMS requirements.
  5. Manages the delivery of the interdisciplinary plan of care on the unit to assure that standards of care are met in a manner acceptable to Masonicare Health Center's mission, vision and values.
  6. Provides oversight and clinical management of assigned unit(s). Will work collaboratively with off-shift supervisors to lead the unit staff on all-shifts to common goals and standards for care. Maintains flexibility in work schedule to connect regularly, in-person, with off shift staff.

  1. Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and assists in directing the patient care operations for the unit, including its programs and activities within approved budget and quality standards in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
  2. Ensures that supplies are maintained at acceptable levels, equipment is maintained in good working order, and rooms are turned over to accommodate admissions/moves in a timely manner. Responsible for overall cleanliness and appearance of the unit.
  3. Direct supervision of clinical staff as assigned. Responsible for performance evaluations, corrective actions, and any other responsibilities as assigned.
  4. Participates in affiliate and other requisite committee/board meetings and prepares educational sessions or materials for staff as required.
  5. Serves a member the QAPI committee.
  6. Identifies and facilitates education needs regarding the key quality initiatives/targets/goals (based on federal, state and best practice guidelines) for BH MHC.
  7. Participates in survey preparedness and corrective action planning. Audits corrective action plans and provides education as needed.
  8. Attends meetings/calls from all regulatory agencies and affiliations on a regular basis to keep current on nursing practices.
  9. Performs additional duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: RN/BSN required and clinical psychiatric nursing experience is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of five years of clinical nursing supervisor/charge nurse experience and 1-3 behavioral health experience preferred. Experience in clinical information systems preferred. Experience in project planning and implementation preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: RN license in State of Connecticut.
