About the PositionPerforms difficult professional work overseeing the County's risk management program; maintaining the County liability/property/flood insurance policy, and advocating safety and wellness through policies and procedures, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Human Resources Director.
Job Duties - Coordinates insurance administration to include supervision, claims maintenance, investigation, and claims processing regarding property and liability and worker's compensation.
- Manages and reviews policy renewals and negotiates new policy terms with all insurance markets; processes invoices; files and follows up on liability/property/flood insurance claims.
- Manages programs including defensive driving, random and post-accident screening, and return to work assignments.
- Researches health and safety issues, develops and coordinates OSHA mandated and health training programs.
- Investigates workplace accidents and makes recommendations for corrective action.
- Prepares department budget.
- Coordinates special projects as required, including coordinating fire extinguisher inspections, distributing tobacco signage, etc.
- Performs other assigned duties.
Position Qualifications - Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of occupational safety and health.
- Thorough knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations pertaining to safety and health; general knowledge of liability and workers' compensation insurance.
- General knowledge of safety record keeping and reporting.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective central safety program and to provide management with statistical trends, cost projections, program accomplishments and recommendations for implementing new programs.
- Ability to develop long term plans and goals for the safety and insurance programs.
- Ability to analyze facts, programs, and insurance cost and make recommendations and reports in oral and written forms effectively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of personnel records, medical records, and discussions.
- Ability to enforce safety regulations firmly and tactfully.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, associates, and the public.
Education, Experience and Supplemental Information - Associate or technical degree or equivalent.
- One to three (1-3) years of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid driver's license.
