Overview

The Risk Manager conducts comprehensive investigations, tracking, trending, and reporting of safety events and incident reports. This role is responsible for analyzing and drafting documentation for root cause analyses, coordinating corrective action strategies, and collaborating with defense counsel on litigation matters. Additionally, the Risk Manager reviews medical records, participates in regulatory surveys, formulates risk reduction strategies, addresses patient complaints involving potential litigation, and supports privacy and compliance initiatives across Good Sam University Hospital (GSH) and Catholic Health (CHS) committees.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Implement, analyze, and maintain targeted risk reduction initiatives and strategic clinical safety metrics.

  • Actively interact on medical malpractice litigation issues, providing requested information, documents, and records to defense counsel.

  • Assist in the mitigation and resolution of complex patient complaints, safety concerns, and potential litigation exposure.

  • Communicate and coordinate closely with healthcare professionals, defense counsel, and relevant stakeholders regarding the receipt, investigation, and resolution of incidents and potential patient claims.

  • Conduct complete investigations of general liability incidents involving GSH, affiliated entities, and employee workplace injuries.

  • Formulate, revise, and implement organizational policies to maintain absolute compliance with current clinical standards, risk containment practices, and HIPAA/privacy guidelines.

  • Review and summarize medical charts and records related to safety events to determine clinical timelines and underlying factors.

  • Participate in regulatory agency surveys (DOH, Joint Commission, etc.), analyzing deficiency findings to develop and coordinate corrective measures.

  • Prepare detailed documentation for liability insurance carriers concerning active claims and high-exposure potential claims.

  • Provide ongoing risk-related education, policy guidance, and proactive support to hospital staff.

  • Coordinate and actively participate in various designated GSH and CHS clinical risk and safety committees.

  • Adhere strictly to all organizational policies, procedures, and ethical benchmarks.

Position Requirements and Qualifications Education
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)

  • Preferred: Master’s Degree

Licensure & Certifications
  • Preferred: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license / BSN credential

  • Preferred: ASHRM (American Society for Health Care Risk Management) certification

Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of dedicated experience within patient safety, clinical risk management, and regulatory agency compliance.

Specialized Skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical acumen.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for data tracking and presentation.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Posted Salary RangeUSD $110,000.00 - USD $160,000.00 /Yr.

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience.
