Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance and review of Lift Plans and Rigging Calculations for field requirements.
  • Assist in developing ongoing training for the Hoisting and Rigging Program.
  • Participate in the assessment and surveillance of Hoisting and Rigging processes.
  • Provide support in the technical changes and scope development for activity level work documents.
  • Review structural calculations ensuring adherence to industry standards for lifting devices.
  • Collaborate in load weight and center of gravity calculations, informing project decisions.

Full Job Description
The Rigging Engineer reports to the Maintenance Programs Manager and supports ongoing plant operations. The Rigging Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, and compliance of rigging plans and engineering calculations associated with hoisting and rigging requirements established by the WTCC Hoisting and Rigging Program for WTCC. This position may also perform other general engineering duties/tasks in support of the DFLAW Facilities and mission.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering, or other technical discipline, and minimum of 15 years of experience in an industrial environment with 2 years of hoisting and rigging experience. Knowledge of the Hanford Site Hoisting and Rigging Manual (DOE/RL-92-36) and experience with developing rigging calculations preferred.

OR

Technical/Associate's degree and minimum of 17 years of experience in an industrial environment with 2 years of hoisting and rigging experience. Knowledge of the Hanford Site Hoisting and Rigging Manual (DOE/RL-92-36) and experience with developing rigging calculations preferred.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and minimum of 20 years in an industrial environment with 2 years of hoisting and rigging experience. Knowledge of the Hanford Site Hoisting and Rigging Manual (DOE/RL-92-36) and experience with developing rigging calculations preferred.

Experience: Department of Energy, NRC, or Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience highly desired. Registered Professional Engineer is required Active participation on an ASME B30 or NCCCO council(s) is preferred.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Maintaining knowledge and proficiency in the creating Lift Plans and associated field-implementing documentation of hoisting and rigging requirements in accordance with the WTCC Hoisting and Rigging Program and the Hanford Site Hoisting and Rigging Manual (DOE/RL-92-36) to support Commissioning, Operations, and Maintenance activities.
  • Understanding the applicability of requirements for the Hoisting and Rigging Program.
  • Ensuring Hoisting and Rigging Program field requirements (e.g., Lift Plans, Rigging Calculations, Soil Compaction, Swing/Load Charts) are appropriately prepared, reviewed, and approved.
  • May assist the Hoisting and Rigging Program SME in the continual development of program and training elements.
  • May assist the Hoisting and Rigging Program SME in the performance of assessments/surveillances of performance of the processes that implement the program.
  • Assist the Mechanical Handling Team with the identification/development of the scopes of work.
  • Assist with the processes of technical changes to activity level work documents, including reviews of changes and impacts to hoisting and rigging work.
  • May assist the Hoisting and Rigging Program SME by participating in the development and delivery of training necessary for continual improvements to the Hoisting and Rigging Program.
  • Identifying and implementing actions to promote improvement, resolve issues, and correct deficiencies in the implementation of the Hoisting and Rigging Program.
  • Providing input and concurrence on project hoisting and rigging activities.
  • Reviewing structural calculations of lift points or lifting devices to determine compliance to applicable standards - determine when an RPE or a graduate of an accredited college or university is required, identification of standards (ASME; BTH-1, Design of Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices; AISC; others), stress levels and factor of safety for types of stress (compression, tension, shear and load combinations), design media review process, identification of various types of materials and environmental effects.
  • Experience with calculating slings and rigging hardware loading and effects on capacity - calculating sling loading using trigonometry, moment magnification factors on lifting attachments, forces and moments on lifting attachments and BTH lifters, cause of sling failures, types of sling protectors, sling cut protection and edge effects on slings, code requirements for "adequate" protection, D to d ratio.
  • Load weight calculations - weight estimates, contingencies for estimates, load impact factors for various types of hoisting equipment, potential hold up of liquid, and load factors.
  • Calculating load center of gravity - calculating moments to determine center of gravity, potential danger of moving loads, potential danger of rotating loads and center of gravity lifting, the use of running blocks.
  • Capable of determining pick points (lifting attachments) - design criteria for lifting attachments, custom designed or ASME B30.26, Rigging Hardware, type of lifting attachment, center of gravity and resulting load vectors to calculate stresses, qualification of lift points by analysis, qualification by inspection and load testing.
  • Experience with multiple crane lifts and lift planning.
  • Experience with load test planning and implementation for cranes, hoists, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with ground bearing pressure calculations and soil stability factors.
  • Familiarity with mobile crane load charts, setup (assembly/disassembly), ground loading and collapse zones.
  • Familiarity with freight container lifting, metallurgical fracture limits, pin to hole diameter and effects on capacity.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual

Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

  • This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Amentum visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)
  • Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns-including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries -are subject to additional security requirements.


Compensation Details:
$131,484.26 - $211,024.41
