Position: RI Certified Principal Start Date: ASAP Employment Status: Full time, 12 month position, temporary Location: Public St. Campus Salary Range: TBD Position Overview: The Principal is responsible as the instructional leader and school manager and assumes all responsibilities for the functioning of the building with a focus on the following responsibilities: • Maximize student learning • Maintaining student safety • Nurture and implement the vision and mission of the Met at the building level • Oversee instructional improvement, staff development, curriculum design, development and implementation of site-based decision-making plans, crisis intervention, and complex discipline and school safety issues • Specifically focusing staff around the strategic improvement areas including: Real World Learning Internships, Literacy, and Quantitative Reasoning (math), Empirical Reasoning, personalization of student work, and in-depth projects at the center of learning • Management and evaluation of staff of advisors, learning specialists, SPED, Social Worker, and Post Met Access Counselor, and other roles • Building relationships, experiences, and solutions directly with students. • Communicating with and leveraging the power of families • Running building-wide PD (staff meetings, one on one meetings, etc.) • Participating in weekly whole-school Leadership Team meetings • Develop collaborative efforts between the school and community, and engage the community to build greater ownership for the work of the school; Representing the school to the public/community • Encourage and develop parent/guardian involvement/partnerships; and deal effectively with the community • Manage school budget • Collaborate well with whole school and district level staff • Utilize resources from the network as needed • Other duties as assigned by the Co-Directors Required Qualifications, Skills & Experiences: For Principal: • a Valid RI Building Level Administrator Certification • Demonstrated successful examples in leading adults in change process. • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple responsibilities • Demonstrated success in leading in a diverse environment • Strong and responsive communication - written and speaking skills required. • Ability to work independently or in a team • Familiarity with the Rhode Island Evaluation Model. Experience preferred. • Provide an accessible strong presence and demonstrate leadership by example. • Excellent organizational skills. • Demonstrated ability to manage a budget. • Ability to embrace ambiguity. • Makes thoughtful, data driven, priority decisions. • Must be accessible and present for school events (e.g. Open Houses, Recruitment events, fairs, etc.) • Experiences as educator or an advisor in a Big Picture Learning school is highly regarded. • Understanding of the principal's role in establishing and maintaining a safe and secure school environment. • Demonstrated leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, community partners, and parents. • Must be highly creative, organized, and able to work with a staff in need of leadership support. • Understands the power and opportunity of project-based learning and career and technical education. • Prioritizes time, leadership, and communications based on needs of specific school in context of of Met Strategic Plan and BP Philosophy. • Understanding and ability to "manage up" to Co-Director.
