Overview

About the Role

As an RFM & Telecommunications Engineer, you will help develop and strengthen calibration and verification programs that support our RFM and telecommunications calibration lab. You will collaborate with Electro Rent engineers, lab technicians, vendors, national laboratories, and other technical institutions to help maintain strong capabilities in RFM and telecommunications test and measurement equipment.This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys combining programming, electronics, and hands-on problem solving. Your work will help create dependable verification and calibration programs, improve lab efficiency, and expand the range of equipment we can support, including higher-level programs aligned with Z540-3 and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibrations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, write, and deploy test and verification programs for RFM and telecommunications components.
  • Partner with lab technicians to verify manufacturer and contract programs before they are released for lab use.
  • Support uncertainty budgets and help classify verification programs to the highest appropriate standard.
  • Work with technical teams to define the equipment and software needed to run verification and test programs, including controllers, drivers, interfaces, and related components.
  • Help ensure programs are properly controlled, archived, and limited to approved versions for lab use.
  • Lead efforts to automate instrumentation set-up, checks, verification, and programming support.
  • Review internally developed procedures, troubleshoot issues, correct bugs, and incorporate available standards into practical solutions.
  • Contribute to additional projects and responsibilities as business needs evolve.
Qualifications
  • A B.S. degree or higher in Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or another related science.
  • At least 2 years of programming experience; equivalent education may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Experience programming in Visual Basic and working with Visual Studio.
  • Experience maintaining Microsoft Windows and SQL servers, including the ability to program in SQL.
  • Advanced knowledge of electronic theory and instrumentation applications.
  • Strong computer skills, including programming languages, Microsoft Word and Excel, and the ability to learn proprietary database software.
  • The ability to work effectively in an electronic laboratory alongside application engineers and technicians.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to learn RFM characterization methods and the use of Metas (Swiss National Lab Tool) within six months.
  • The ability to perform the physical requirements of the role described below.
  • The ability to operate company vehicles in compliance with applicable traffic laws, DOT requirements, company driving policies, and safety standards, including participation in mandatory random drug and alcohol screening programs.

Preferred ExperienceExperience with electronic instrumentation and its applications is a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This onsite role includes work in an electronic laboratory and warehouse environment. To perform the essential functions of the job, the employee must be able to:

  • Work the expected schedule, consistently arrive at the agreed time, and follow company guidelines regarding breaks and meal periods. Full-time work is typically 40 hours per week.
  • Communicate clearly in person and remotely, including by phone or computer.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively in an environment with frequent interruptions and deadline pressures.
  • Stand for prolonged periods and work at a computer for extended periods in a low- to moderate-noise environment.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds and, with assistance, move equipment weighing up to 150 pounds.
  • Read documents and small print, view a computer screen for prolonged periods, prepare or inspect documents, and operate office equipment.
  • Hear typical conversations and receive ordinary information, including communication by phone.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $77,500 - $85,750
