Overview

Are you looking to make a difference in the lives of injured workers? We are looking for client-focused people with disability management, occupational health or return to work experience to join our team as a Return to Work Specialist.

How you'll make a difference: You'll provide compassionate, supportive service to people injured at work.

This role is based in your assigned office five days a week.

You may also be required to attend site visits and interact directly with injured workers, health care providers and workers.

We have positions available in Richmond and Kelowna. Please indicate which location(s) you are interested in.

What you'll do

  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized return-to-work plans that bridge the gap between the workers' abilities and the critical job demands
  • Collaborate with health care providers, employers and workers to assist in the development of recovery and return to work plans
  • Weigh evidence and interpret policy to determine workers' eligibility for benefits
  • Authorize appropriate diagnostic referrals and consultations
  • Develop supportive, collaborative, and respectful relationships with workers, employers, and health care providers
  • Educate workers, worker representative groups, employers, industry groups, and health care providers about strategies for returning to work and managing disabilities
  • Visit worksites to assess critical job demands as required
  • Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of occupational health and disability management principles, including return-to-work planning
  • Demonstrate care and compassion while building relationships and developing effective recovery and return-to-work plans
  • Make timely, independent decisions by applying law and policy to a set of complicated and challenging facts that address benefits, medical management, disability status and employability issues
  • Document, explain, and present detailed and complex information orally and in writing
  • Apply organizational and decision-making skills to manage a high-volume caseload

Your background and experience
  • A university degree in a related discipline such as disability management, health sciences, kinesiology, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work, psychology or vocational rehabilitation.
  • A minimum of two years of work experience that includes directly related experience in disability management and return-to-work planning
  • A valid B.C. driver's license

We'll consider equivalent combinations of education and experience.
