Full Job Description
Position Summary:

Performs the duties of a licensed pharmacist; dispenses medications accurately per the prescription of a licensed provider and provides counseling to patients. Ensures the safety and security of medications and products stocked in the pharmacy. Ensures adherence to all laws and regulations governing the handling of medications, including controlled substances. Assumes the role of Pharmacy Manager in the manager's absence.

Reports To:

Pharmacy Manager, System Pharmacy Director.

Supervises:

Must demonstrate proficient ability to directly supervise Pharmacy Department personnel in a manner consistent with hospital policies and applicable laws. Supervisor responsibilities may include training employees, panning, assigning, and directing work, and complaint resolution.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Reviews prescriptions issued by Physicians and other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy, appropriateness of medication and dose, and determine formulas and ingredients needed.
  • Directs pharmacy staff (e.g. technicians, clerical staff, interns) engaged in filling prescriptions and assisting customers.
  • Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of medications.
  • Enters data such as patient name, prescribed medication and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory.
  • Communicates and treats customers of various ages.
  • Works effectively with other retail / hospital employees, managers, and departments.
  • Complies with all State and Federal Laws and Regulations.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited college of Pharmacy with a Bachelor's or Pharm.D degree.
  • Pharmacist license in good standing with the State of New Hampshire.
  • For administration of vaccines, must hold an active BLS certificate, have completed an ACPE-approved or CDC-endorsed vaccine administration training. Possess at least $1,000,000 in professional liability insurance, complete and submit a "Pharmacist Administration of Vaccines Application," with N.H. OLC.
