Responsibilities

  • Deliver routine respiratory treatments and therapies to pediatric patients

  • Initiate and maintain mechanical ventilation settings as needed
  • Assess blood gas analyses to inform respiratory management decisions

Job Description:

This is a position for Neonatal / and or Pediatric Experienced Respiratory Therapists that will work at the Children's hospital in Orlando for a 13 week contract on Nightshift (6:45pm to 7:15am shift time). Certifications that are required include BLS, NRP, and PALS. **note: RTs will not work with adults**
• Delivers routine respiratory treatments and continuous respiratory therapy including aerosol therapy, lung expansion therapy, oxygen therapy, and bronchial hygiene.
• Monitors, instructs, and coaches patients before, during, and after treatment delivery.
• Prevents and/or resolves untoward side effects and adjusts therapies according to protocol and documented clinical criteria.
• Reevaluates patient/ventilator interface a minimum of every four hours, responds to alarms, and troubleshoots as needed.
• Establishes weaning readiness and facilitates the weaning process, adjusting ventilator settings in accordance with patient progress.
• Draws and analyzes arterial and capillary blood gases, places arterial lines, and makes or recommends changes in respiratory management according to blood gas results.
• Recommends changes in respiratory plan of care according to documented medical necessity and within established protocols.
• Ensures the effectiveness of therapist assessment and reassessment by monitoring patient progress.
• Makes and/or recommends changes based on pulse oximetry, peak flow measurement, chest x-ray, lab work, and other data relevant to optimal patient progress.
• Initiates and maintains mechanical ventilation, determining or guiding the determination of ventilator mode and settings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Patient care skills to care for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations are required. [Required]
• Intubations and airway management for all population served [Preferred]
• Ventilator management for all populations served [Preferred]
• Arterial line placements [Preferred]

Education:
• Associate [Required]

Field of Study:
• Must be a graduate of an approved respiratory care program

Work Experience:
• 1+ critical care experience [Preferred]
