Full Job Description
Redpath is seeking a strategic and proactive Resource Manager to help drive workforce planning, scheduling, and resource allocation across our Audit and Tax practices. This role will partner closely with firm leadership to develop and execute staffing strategies that maximize engagement efficiency, employee utilization, and exceptional client service.

The Resource Manager will take ownership of forecasting resource needs, proactively assigning work, balancing workloads, and recommending staffing solutions as business demands evolve. This individual will play a key role in helping the firm transition toward a more structured, forward-looking scheduling model, with an emphasis on assigning engagements in advance, improving visibility into capacity, and creating scalable processes that support continued growth.

This position reports to firm leadership and supervises a Resource Assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

Resource Planning & Scheduling
  • Lead scheduling and resource allocation efforts across the Audit and Tax practices.
  • Develop and maintain forward-looking staffing plans that align employee availability, skill sets, client needs, and business priorities.
  • Proactively assign engagements and work assignments in advance whenever possible to improve visibility and staffing effectiveness.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of employee capacity, utilization, technical competencies, career development goals, and engagement commitments.
  • Monitor workload balances across teams and proactively recommend adjustments when staffing challenges arise.
  • Serve as the primary resource planning expert for leadership, providing recommendations regarding assignments, workload distribution, and staffing needs.

Strategic Workforce Management
  • Partner with partners, directors, and managers to identify current and future resource needs.
  • Analyze staffing trends, utilization metrics, engagement forecasts, and capacity constraints to make data-driven recommendations.
  • Provide staffing solutions when unexpected changes occur, including employee departures, leaves of absence, or significant shifts in workload.
  • Drive discussions around resource optimization and staffing strategies to ensure efficient engagement delivery.
  • Assist leadership in identifying hiring needs and workforce planning requirements, particularly at the staff and senior levels.
  • Participate in onboarding and resource planning for new hires to ensure effective integration into client engagements.

Process Improvement & Innovation
  • Evaluate current scheduling processes and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, transparency, and consistency.
  • Partner with leadership and IT to identify and implement technology solutions that enhance workforce planning and resource management.
  • Leverage reporting, analytics, AI-enabled tools, and resource management technologies to improve forecasting, scheduling, and decision-making.
  • Establish best practices and scalable processes to support future growth across service lines.
  • Create reports and dashboards that provide visibility into utilization, capacity, engagement staffing, and resource allocation trends.

Team Leadership
  • Supervise, mentor, and support the Resource Assistant.
  • Collaborate closely with administrative and operational team members to ensure staffing information is accurate and current.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and team members regarding scheduling decisions and resource planning.


Qualifications:

Required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in public accounting, professional services, workforce planning, project management, scheduling, or resource management.
  • Experience balancing workloads and managing competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to confidently make staffing recommendations.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Preferred
  • Experience with professional services scheduling, staffing, or workforce planning.
  • Experience leading or improving scheduling and resource management processes.
  • Strong understanding of public accounting engagement workflows, particularly within Audit and/or Tax.
  • Familiarity with reporting, business intelligence, AI-powered productivity tools, and workforce analytics.
  • Experience managing or mentoring direct reports.
