DescriptionThe Program Director will provide visionary leadership and operational oversight for all aspects of the residency program. The individual will be responsible for ensuring excellence in education, maintaining accreditation, and advancing the program's clinical, academic, and scholarly mission. The role requires a collaborative leader and educator committed to training the next generation of ophthalmologists.
The Primary Responsibilities of the Program Director will be:Program Leadership
- Direct all aspects of the residency program, including strategic planning and continuous improvement
- Ensure compliance with ACGME accreditation requirements and institutional policies
- Serve as the primary liaison to institutional GME leadership
Education and Curriculum
- Develop and oversee a comprehensive competency-based curriculum
- Ensure robust exposure across all ophthalmic subspecialties
- Advance innovation in surgical training, simulation and didactics
Resident Recruitment and Development
- Lead recruitment and selection of residents
- Oversee resident evaluation, mentorship and progression
- Promote an inclusive and supportive training environment
Faculty Engagement
- Recruit and develop faculty educators
- Foster a culture of academic excellence, mentorship, and scholarship
Clinical and Academic Contributions
- Maintain an active clinical practice
- Support and expand research and scholarly activity within the program
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:- MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent)
- Board Certified/Board Eligible in Ophthalmology
- Eligible for medical licensure in New York
- Minimum 3 years of educational or administrative experience
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical care and teaching
Preferred Qualifications:- Prior leadership experience in GME (Program Director, Associate Program Director, or equivalent)
- Experience with accreditation processes and program development
- Strong academic portfolio and commitment to scholarly activity
