Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Residence Education and reporting to the Assistant Director, Residence Life, the Residence Education and Transition Coordinator (RETC) is a live-in position that works to create a positive living and learning environment for residents at UTM. In accordance with departmental policies and the academic mission of the University of Toronto, the RETC willsupervise a staff team consisting of live-in student leaders (Residence Education Facilitators and one Community Assistant), to foster and promote a residence community that supports the academic development and personal growth of all residence students.This will be achieved through the collaboration, creation, and implementation of student opportunities and curriculum designed to support a student's academic transition to the university environment. They will collaborate with the Supervisor, Residence Education in creating the overall vision and strategy for supporting academic development in the Student Housing and Residence Life Department. Working collaboratively with the residence life management team, the RETC will develop, implement and assess a comprehensive residence curriculum that specifically addresses the development and growth of undergraduate and graduate students as they live and learn in the residence community. The RETC will be involved in the implementation of the residence curriculum and the creation of facilitation guides.

Hours of Work: Regular office hours Monday to Friday. Regular evening and
weekend work to coordinate operations and support students living in a 24/7
residence environment. Participate in on-call rotation for emergencies.

Term End Date: April 30, 2028

Five (5) days per week on-site.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
  • Conducting detailed analysis of program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Advising students on co-curricular, academic and personal matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students
  • Training and coaching student life staff and student leaders

Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years of relevant experience (combination of para-professional and professional experience is acceptable) living and/or working in an education setting. Experience in a university residence setting is strongly preferred.
  • Experience dealing with emergency situations and crisis response.
  • Experience supervising or supporting student staff teams.
  • Experience planning and facilitating workshops/programs/seminars.
  • Experience monitoring and maintaining accounts and budgets.
  • Comfortable working in an unpredictable and often stressful environment.
  • Proven ability to deal with matters of extreme sensitivity and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Commitment to improving and enhancing the residence experience.


Assets (Nonessential):
  • Master's Degree in Education (or related field) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with StarRez, Persona, Genetec and VingCard would be an asset.
  • Experience working with diverse student communities and international students is also a significant asset.
  • Mental health and suicide intervention skills training would be an asset. (Additional training will be provided)
