Description:
Trinity Health Of New England is seeking a highly motivated Research Finance Specialist to support the financial operations of a growing and diverse clinical research portfolio. This role is responsible for the financial administration of industry-sponsored, federally funded, foundation-supported, and investigator-initiated research studies across multiple specialties, including oncology, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, orthopedics, and other service lines.

The Research Finance & Billing Compliance Specialist serves as a key partner to investigators, research coordinators, finance teams, and operational stakeholders by overseeing clinical trial budgeting, research billing compliance, payment reconciliation, grant financial management, and research-related financial reporting. This position plays a critical role in ensuring regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and operational excellence throughout the lifecycle of clinical research studies.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a thorough understanding of research finance and billing processes, and the ability to effectively collaborate across a complex healthcare environment.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct Medicare Coverage Analyses (MCAs) and research billing reviews utilizing CMS regulations, local coverage determinations, sponsor requirements, and institutional standards of care.
  • Serve as the Research Billing Specialist within EPIC, ensuring accurate research charge routing, billing compliance, and application of required research modifiers.
  • Review, monitor, and reconcile research-related patient charges to ensure compliance with institutional, sponsor, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with accounting, finance, hospital billing, and ancillary departments to resolve billing discrepancies and outstanding research claims.
  • Interpret and implement research billing and financial compliance policies across multiple service lines.
  • Develop and negotiate clinical trial budgets with sponsors, contract research organizations (CROs), and research partners.
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigators (PIs) and Clinical Research Coordinators to establish financially sustainable study budgets.
  • Track and reconcile study activity payments against protocol-required patient visits and procedures.
  • Coordinate with Trinity Health Of New England finance teams regarding research-related deposits, payments, tax reporting, and other financial activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field required.  Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in research finance, grant administration, clinical trial finance, revenue integrity, healthcare finance, research operations, or a related field required.
  • Experience with clinical research billing compliance and Medicare Coverage Analysis strongly preferred.
  • Experience within a healthcare system, academic medical center, university, or research environment preferred.
  • Experience managing sponsored research budgets, grants, or clinical trial financial activities preferred.
