The Remote Pharmacist provides centralized pharmacist support to Hometown Pharmacy locations while working primarily in a remote environment. This position supports pharmacy operations through pharmacist-level prescription review, clinical support, regulatory compliance, medication safety, workflow assistance, and collaboration with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy leadership.
The Remote Pharmacist serves as a professional pharmacy resource for assigned locations and assists pharmacy teams in maintaining safe, accurate, efficient, and compliant pharmacy operations. This position does not have direct supervisory or managerial responsibility for pharmacy employees or pharmacy locations.
The ideal candidate is an experienced retail pharmacist who is highly organized, comfortable working independently in a remote environment, knowledgeable regarding pharmacy laws and regulations, and able to effectively collaborate with pharmacy teams across multiple locations.

Essential Functions of the Job:
Remote Pharmacist Support
Provide pharmacist-level support to Hometown Pharmacy locations from a centralized remote setting.
Perform pharmacist functions permitted through the organization's remote pharmacy systems and applicable pharmacy laws and regulations.
Review prescriptions and patient information for accuracy, appropriateness, interactions, contraindications, allergies, dosing, and other medication-related concerns.
Complete pharmacist verification and other pharmacist-level prescription processing functions as authorized and appropriate.
Communicate with pharmacy staff regarding prescription questions, medication concerns, workflow issues, and patient-care needs.
Contact prescribers or other healthcare professionals when pharmacist intervention or clarification is necessary.
Assist pharmacy teams in resolving prescription-processing, medication, insurance, and workflow concerns requiring pharmacist involvement.
Provide pharmacist consultation and professional guidance to pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy personnel within the scope of the position.
Support pharmacy locations experiencing increased prescription volume, staffing challenges, or other workflow needs.
Maintain consistent availability to supported pharmacy teams during established working hours.
Patient Care & Medication Safety
Promote safe and appropriate medication use through pharmacist review and intervention.
Identify potential medication errors, drug interactions, therapeutic duplications, contraindications, inappropriate dosing, and other patient-safety concerns.
Provide patient counseling and medication-related education remotely when appropriate and permitted.
Assist with medication adherence, medication synchronization, refill coordination, and other patient-care initiatives as assigned.
Support immunization, clinical, and preventative healthcare initiatives within the pharmacist's authorized scope of practice.
Document pharmacist interventions and patient-care activities as required.
Escalate significant medication-safety or patient-care concerns to appropriate pharmacy or organizational leadership.
Regulatory & Compliance Support
Perform pharmacist duties in accordance with applicable federal and Wisconsin pharmacy laws, regulations, Board of Pharmacy requirements, controlled-substance requirements, professional standards, and company policies.
Follow established pharmacy policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures.
Assist pharmacy locations with pharmacist-level questions regarding regulatory and compliance requirements.
Review pharmacy documentation and prescription records when necessary to support compliant pharmacy operations.
Identify potential compliance concerns encountered during the performance of assigned duties and communicate those concerns to appropriate leadership.
Maintain appropriate documentation of pharmacist activities, interventions, and other required records.
Assist with regulatory inspections, audits, or compliance reviews when requested.
Maintain all licenses, certifications, continuing education, and credentials required for the position.
Remote/Centralized Responsibilities
While working remotely, the Remote Pharmacist will:
Maintain consistent availability during established working hours.
Monitor assigned remote pharmacy systems and pharmacist work queues.
Complete assigned pharmacist verification and prescription-review responsibilities accurately and timely.
Respond to pharmacist-level questions from supported pharmacy locations.
Communicate professionally and effectively with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, prescribers, patients, and organizational leadership.
Participate in pharmacy, operational, clinical, or educational meetings as required.
Assist with pharmacist and technician education regarding pharmacy procedures, medication safety, workflow, and regulatory requirements.
Support consistent implementation of organizational pharmacy procedures.
Assist with special pharmacy projects, clinical initiatives, quality-improvement activities, or centralized pharmacy services as assigned.
Provide pharmacist coverage and support to pharmacy locations based on organizational and patient-care needs.

Non-Essential Functions of the Job:
Participate in pharmacy-related projects and initiatives.
Assist with training and educational activities as requested.
Provide input regarding pharmacy workflow, patient safety, and operational improvement opportunities.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Remote Pharmacist does not have direct supervisory responsibility for pharmacy employees and is not responsible for employee scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, hiring, termination, compensation decisions, or other personnel-management functions.
The Remote Pharmacist may provide professional guidance, pharmacist direction, training, and clinical or regulatory support to pharmacy personnel as necessary to perform pharmacist responsibilities. Such guidance does not constitute direct personnel supervision or managerial authority.

Supervisory Controls
Level of supervisory oversight and guidance is:
The position is expected to independently perform assigned pharmacist responsibilities within established policies, procedures, professional standards, and applicable pharmacy laws and regulations.
The Remote Pharmacist reports to the designated pharmacy supervisor or department leader.
Significant operational, regulatory, patient-safety, or personnel concerns should be escalated to the appropriate supervisor or organizational leader.
Performance standards used to measure successful performance of this position will be established by the employee's supervisor.

Preferred Education/Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited school or college of pharmacy.
Current, active, and unrestricted pharmacist license in the State of Wisconsin.
Pharmacist license must remain active and in good standing throughout employment.
Must meet all continuing education and license-renewal requirements necessary to maintain Wisconsin pharmacist licensure.
Must meet all applicable federal and state requirements necessary to perform the pharmacist duties assigned to the position.

Proficiency with pharmacy management systems, remote pharmacy technology, electronic communications, Google Workspace or Microsoft Office products, and other technology required for the position.
