This position leads the Remediation Department within the Environmental Services (ENS) Global Practice, serving both private and public market sectors. Working closely with Burns & McDonnell leadership, the Department Manager will build upon a well-established team, a diverse multi-sector client base, and a strong market position to drive disciplined, profitable growth. The role is grounded in Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and outstanding service.
Responsibilities Business Development & Client Growth - Identify, develop, and direct the implementation of business strategy for the Department, including operational strategies and procedures, marketing and pricing strategy, sales, and customer retention strategy.
- Deepen and expand existing client relationships across industrial, municipal, power and utilities, federal, and oil and gas sectors - developing projects within established accounts while simultaneously capturing new client workload to drive revenue growth.
- Serve as a Client Account Manager for target clients, providing guidance to Client Account Coordinators who will take primary responsibility for ultimate delivery of services and client satisfaction.
- Create and cultivate key relationships within target client organizations, including vertical relationship planning across client accounts.
- Identify program and project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with ENS office and practice leadership.
- Develop approaches to convert remedial investigation and design projects into construction opportunities, preferably as design-build or engineer-procure-construct (EPC) programs.
- Facilitate pursuit strategy and capture plan development to pre-sell projects prior to RFP release.
- Lead or facilitate proposal development based on client feedback and key win themes for project pursuits.
- Lead risk assessment and mitigation strategies, and contract and negotiation processes following project selection.
Practice Operations & Quality - Promote and ensure adherence to quality and safety standards. Adhere to the Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program and maintain the Burns & McDonnell Safety program.
- Execute projects in a manner that meets or exceeds client expectations for quality, schedule, and budget, while achieving internal targets for profitability and client satisfaction.
- Maximize project profitability through effective resource planning, utilization management, and project oversight.
- Leverage India-based support resources and other efficiency tools to optimize project delivery and team capacity.
Leadership - Invest in and develop emerging leaders - cultivating PM-level staff into the next generation of sales and technical leaders through individual development planning and mentorship.

Measures of Performance - Performance measures will be quantified in cooperation with ENS Global Practice leadership and include:
- Attainment of sales, revenue, and income goals for the Remediation Department.
- Attainment of billable time targets for Department staff.
- Growth of the Department based on sales, revenue, net income (profitability), and staff size.
- Ability to lead Project Managers and develop management skills to maximize safety, client satisfaction, and profitability on projects.
- Ability to maximize profitability on projects.
- Ability to attract, hire, develop, and retain exceptional talent into Burns & McDonnell.
- Ability to execute projects meeting or exceeding client expectations for quality, schedule, and budget.
- Ability to execute projects meeting or exceeding internal expectations for quality, schedule, labor/cost budgets, project profitability, safety, and client satisfaction.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, geology, or related field from an accredited program.
- Minimum 8 years of related professional experience, including management or oversight of remedial construction; 12 years of experience highly preferred.
- Demonstrated track record of business development success - including growing existing client accounts and winning new clients across diverse market sectors.
- Experience managing or leading project teams with accountability for financial performance, utilization, and client satisfaction.
- Previous consulting experience preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices across broad areas of assignment.
- Ability to devise new approaches to challenges encountered in complex, multi-sector remediation environments.
- Previous people management or leadership experience preferred.
