What you'll do

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Reliability Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability of our government mobility products, antenna systems and crypto products! You will collaborate with all engineering teams and management to craft in reliability during all phases of a product's lifecycle starting from design to end-use.

The day-to-day
  • Lead all reliability activities of government mobility products, antenna systems, and crypto products.
  • Build and maintain a strong working relationship with Viasat Government business, engineering, and program management.
  • Recommend relevant reliability strategies for programs and products in Viasat Government business areas.
  • Support program management activities for proposal requests, scope of work and third-party agreements related to reliability requirements.
  • Have working knowledge and understanding of reliability methodologies to lead government programs. The methodologies include but are not limited to:
  • Reliability analysis and development of system reliability models.
  • Failure modes effects and criticality analysis (FMECA), identifying critical failure modes (and other risks) and working with the project team to develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Physics-of-failure (PoF) based concepts and methodologies to proactively improve reliability.
    Reliability testing (HALT, ALT, and RDT).
  • Root cause investigations of production and field failures and providing recommendations to improve reliability.
  • In-depth field failure metrics tracking and reporting.
  • Communicate results and any reliability risks to program team and management and recommend/be involved in decision making.

What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Materials Engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in leading reliability activities like reliability predictions and modeling, FMECAs, reliability testing, and so on.
  • Experience as a reliability engineer or lead in government products and programs.
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills (ability to influence, lead and mentor teams)
  • Experience translating technical concepts into understandable business outcomes
  • Must be able to work out of the office in Duluth, GA
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain a United States Secret Clearance
What will help you on the job
  • Master's degree or PhD in Reliability Engineering or related field
  • Proficient in reliability block diagram analysis, reliability prediction methods, and FMECA.
  • Knowledge of RF, power, digital electronics; and mechanical systems.
  • Consistent track record of driving detailed failure analysis activities to root cause swiftly.
  • Familiarity with Physics of Failure (PoF) concepts and application.
  • Ability to work with and influence design teams and leadership.
