Mission for this Position

Reporting to the Manager, Planning, Reliability & Continuous Improvement, the Continuous Improvement (CI) Superintendent is responsible for developing the strategy and the culture related to continuous improvement across the organisation. The Superintendent plans and provides leadership to execute initiatives improving and changing processes.

Main Accountabilities

• Develop the department's annual execution plan and develops area specific, goals and objectives. Using continuous improvement methodologies, develops operational insights, recommends and supports implementation strategies, to the senior leadership team, for process changes and cost savings initiatives. Develops innovative opportunities to improve the efficiency of operations. Ensures the technical group is delivering the desired service to the operation
• Lead and influence personnel at multiple levels to improve operational processes that ensure a safe work environment, maximizes profitability, drives quality improvements and reduces operating costs. Supports improvement in existing processes including eliminating variation and non-value added work.
• Lead new systems/improvements by developing, tracking and monitoring operational plans, managing resources and activities, ensuring thorough analysis of data and environment is conducted, as well as providing guidance to the management team.
• Manage team members by hiring, coaching, mentoring, conducting succession planning and development plans, providing performance feedback, and taking corrective actions as required including discipline.
• Develop and manage the department budget including workforce planning and schedule forecasts, by providing recommendations for the annual budget and tracking/monitoring the operating and capital expenditures.

Main Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering/sciences preferably with statistic as part of their degree
• Formal training in Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certified
• Five (5) years of experience in Continuous Improvement
• Seven (7) years of experience in mining
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions. Ability to think critically, have attention to detail, and the capacity to make informed judgments based on available information. Ability to identify and manage data, execute quality control, build Excel models and draw correct business insights and implications (Statistical analysis).
• Leadership/Management skills: Ability to organise and direct workflow, operations, and employees to meet company goals. Ability to motivate others, provide guidance, and set team direction, while creating an environment that lets employees work efficiently and productively Working knowledge of operations management, finance, and business knowledge.
• Communication skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbal, for conveying ideas, instructions, and information to colleagues, external parties, and superiors.
• Project Management skills: Ability to plan, organise, delegating, and monitor progress against the objectives set.
• Time Management/Organisation skills: Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize tasks to ensure that work is completed effectively and deadlines are met.
• Interpersonal Effectiveness skills: Ability to influence the views and behaviour of others through persuasion and encouragement and manage conflict or other sensitive issues tactfully and effectively. Ability to adapt behaviour to a wide range of people.
• Strategic Thinking skills: Ability to think proactively and consider longer-term opportunities as well as challenges that might develop in the future leading to a clear set of goals, plans, and new ideas in a competitive and changing environment.

Compensation

Compensation for this position is aligned with Baffinland's approved compensation framework and current market conditions. Final compensation will be determined based on:
• Relevant education and certifications
• Related training and experience
• Internal equity considerations

This site-based role is eligible for participation in the travel benefits, site premiums, comprehensive health and dental coverage, and pension participation.
