Registered Veterinary Technician, Surgery ICU

$34-52/hour + $2,500 Sign-On Bonus
Full-time opportunity in Annapolis, Maryland
Schedule: Overnight shift (7:00 PM-7:00 AM), three 12-hour shifts per week. Opportunity for a rotating schedule every other week, providing seven consecutive days off while maintaining full-time hours.

At Chesapeake Veterinary Surgical Specialists, you'll work alongside board-certified surgeons in a collaborative, fast-paced environment that values clinical excellence, teamwork, and continuous professional growth.

Our Annapolis hospital shares a 28,000-square-foot specialty facility with Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Rehabilitation, Radiation Oncology, and a 24-hour emergency hospital, providing exposure to complex cases and an outstanding collaborative learning environment.In your day-to-day, you will:
  • Deliver exceptional nursing care for post-operative and critically ill surgical patients in the ICU.
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons and specialty teams to provide outstanding patient care.
  • Monitor patients closely and recognize changes in patient condition using sound clinical judgment.
  • Calculate drug dosages and administer intravenous medications and fluid therapy accurately.
  • Monitor ECGs and identify abnormal cardiac rhythms.
  • Assess patients for pulse deficits and changes in cardiovascular status.
  • Manage feeding tubes, chest tubes, urinary bladder expression, and jugular catheter maintenance.
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and phlebotomy.
  • Prioritize patient care while working independently in a fast-paced, high-intensity ICU environment.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and communicate effectively with the clinical team.
  • Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture.
What You Bring
  • Minimum of one year of ICU experience as a Veterinary Technician.
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, or LVT) preferred but not required. Applicants with strong ICU experience will be considered.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and commitment to exceptional nursing care.
  • Experience calculating drug dosages and administering IV medications and fluids.
  • Proficiency with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and advanced patient monitoring.
  • Experience with ECG interpretation, feeding tubes, chest tube maintenance, and critical patient nursing care.
