Join our Behavioral Health team as a Registered Nurse- Educator, where you will partner with the Director of Nursing and Nurse Manager to provide clinical leadership, oversee daily unit operations, and support the delivery of compassionate, high-quality behavioral health care. This leadership role combines patient care, staff development, operational oversight, utilization management, and discharge planning to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered services for individuals receiving inpatient behavioral health treatment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the daily coordination and supervision of the Behavioral Health Unit, including staffing, scheduling, resource utilization, and ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Provide clinical leadership by serving as a role model, supporting quality improvement initiatives, monitoring patient care outcomes, and promoting evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Support recruitment, orientation, competency assessments, performance evaluations, staff coaching, recognition, and professional development to foster a highly engaged nursing team.
  • Coordinate utilization management and discharge planning activities, including insurance authorizations, interdisciplinary care coordination, patient and family education, community referrals, and continuity of care following discharge.
  • Monitor departmental operations, productivity, budgets, and supply utilization while collaborating with nursing leadership to ensure efficient and cost-effective patient care.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, exceptional customer service, patient safety, infection prevention, and continuous improvement through collaboration with physicians, pharmacies, hospice providers, community partners, and interdisciplinary teams.
Qualifications

Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college. Bachelor's Degree is highly desirable.

Licensure & Certification
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Hawaii required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one month of hire.

Experience
  • Minimum of one and one-half (1.5) years of professional nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory potential through charge nurse responsibilities, team leadership, special projects, supervisory training, or performance evaluations reflecting supervisory aptitude.
  • Experience in behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, acute care, or inpatient nursing is preferred.

* Rates listed for paid holidays, vacation and sick days are for 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) positions assigned to 8 hour shifts. Accruals for these benefits are otherwise prorated based on FTE.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Shift Details
