Registered Nurse (RN) Director of Medical Surgical

Job Type:Full-time | 40 Hours a Week | Days

We are seeking a leader with substantial frontline operational experience, including strategic planning, operational execution, workflow optimization, and team leadership in a complex and competitive environment.

The Director of Medical Surgical Units manages the daily operations of the assigned department or function to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives. This position reports to the Senior Director of Operations.

A Registered Nurse (RN) Director of Medical Surgical who excels in this role:

  • Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
  • Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
  • Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
  • Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA). Skilled in the application of policies and procedures.
  • Manage the work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensures quality standards.
  • Responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff.

What we27re looking for

  • Active North Carolina RN license (single-state) or compact required.

    • If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment begins.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required

  • Master's Degree Preferred

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required

  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a Registered Nurse in Medical Surgical and Neuro Science

  • Leadership/Director experience highly preferred
