Position Summary:

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for registered nurses to join our organization as part of the RN Operating Room Training Program, in preparation for the opening of our new hospital in 2027. Our current hospital will remain fully operational until the transition to the new facility is complete, ensuring continuity of care and training throughout the move.

Schedule and On-Call Requirements:

This position has variable start times based on patient-care needs and scheduled cases. Scheduled work may include nighttime hours when cases are scheduled.

All RNs are required to participate in the department's on-call rotation, which includes overnight call from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, and 24-hour on-call periods on Saturdays and Sundays. While on call, the RN may be required to report to work when a case or patient-care need arises.

Program Overview

The RN Operating Room Training Program is designed to provide newly graduated nurses and/or Registered Nurses transitioning into perioperative nursing with a structured, supportive pathway to develop the knowledge, technical skills, clinical judgment, and confidence required to practice safely and effectively in the Operating Room.

The program combines didactic instruction, hands-on clinical training, structured preceptorship, competency validation, and evidence-based practice. Participants will be progressively introduced to the responsibilities of the intraoperative nurse, with emphasis on both the circulating nurse and scrub role, patient safety, surgical asepsis, teamwork, communication, and the perioperative continuum of care.

The program will begin on December 7, 2026 and is approximately 6-months in duration and is designed to support the transition from foundational nursing knowledge to independent perioperative practice.

The RN Operating Room Training Program will prepare nurses to:

• Provide safe, evidence-based, patient-centered perioperative care.
• Develop competency in the circulating and scrub nurse roles, based on organizational needs and individual competency progression.
• Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and positioning.
• Maintain principles of sterile technique and surgical asepsis.
• Perform accurate surgical counts and participate in the prevention of retained surgical items.
• Demonstrate safe medication, specimen, and implant management.
• Recognize and appropriately respond to intraoperative emergencies.
• Develop effective communication and teamwork skills within the multidisciplinary surgical team.
• Advocate for patient safety, dignity, privacy, and informed care throughout the perioperative experience.
• Demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and escalation of concerns.
• Participate in quality improvement and evidence-based practice.
• Transition successfully toward independent practice as a perioperative nurse.

Qualifications

Experience:

• 0 to 14 months nursing experience, including no experience, is acceptable.
• 1 or more years RN experience in non-inpatient/acute setting is acceptable.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

• Valid and active California Registered Nurse License at the time of offer.
• Current and active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare provider from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• NIHSS Credential required within 30 days of hire.
